Kind of like adult Gushers!?
I decided to start experimenting with chews and gels after realizing that I always seem to get heartburn/indigestion if I eat solid foods while out hiking, no matter what I eat. I bought the orange flavor and took them out on an easy 6 mile hike to test them out...I ate a few about midway through the hike and then continued to pop one every so often, I felt great and didn't have any issues. I really liked them because of the gummy texture and taste, which kind of reminded me of the Gushers we used to eat as kids, but that might not be everyone's favorite thing.
Yet another good product from the GU folks
I've been a big fan of energy chews since they hit the market years ago. You don't have to finish the whole package like gels the instant they are opened. GU Chews are great. Not as salty as some, a little more chewy and tiny bit smaller than most. Strawberry with a little caffeine is a favorite since I'm an addict to the stuff like so many of us. And, a pack of 8 is nice cause you can portion it out in smaller doses during exercise.
Good for a specific use case
There's a weird balance in energy snacks. Can I get it down quickly? Will I enjoy it? Will I enjoy it pre/during/post activity? I don't think any of these products can balance every demand, so each one has to hit a preferred point. Personally I find Gu Chews to be high on the 'yes I can get it down quickly' and moderate on the 'will I enjoy it...during a workout.' The blocks can almost be swallowed without chewing, like a gel, without the slimy nature of a gel, which is awesome. So definitely worth a try in your next workout. Just, uh...just don't try one when you're not mid-workout. Yech.
Spartan race
I used this on my first half marathon spartan race . It was there when i needed the energy to push thru the hardest peeks of the race. I was just about to endure the longest uphill and down hill battle of my life. It was easy to open and chew on the run.
Great snack to take on hikes and workouts
The consistency and flavor of these chews are pretty similar to the cliff shot blocks. Although the blueberry flavor did not have any caffeine in them, the flavor was great and it was the perfect little snack to give me a boost of energy during a challenging snowshoe hike. I shared them with friends and everybody loved them! I will be buying more in the future.
excellent revival chew
I have used the orange flavored, no caffeine GU chews for over 10 years for before & after outrigger canoe training runs & races, xc skiing day trips, biking, hiking, etc. They provide an extra energy boost. I have tried several different brands but love the orange flavored ones the best. They keep well past their expiration date. They are difficult to find in the stores in my area. Look closely re the caffeine content in case you do not want the ones with caffeine. It says it in small print. (The strawberry GU chews have caffeine). Easy to carry & don't melt in the heat. Drink plenty of water with them. Love the chewiness. Easier to carry than sports type drinks as they go further & have a lower sugar content.
Chews for Running
Sooo GOOD and NOOO CAFFEINE I like the orange flavor sincerely the chews for my long running
Great on a long bike ride
I am not a fan of energy goo, but we were taking a 100+ mike ride and I knew I'd need some easy energy snacks to keep me going. I tried these and they were great. Loved the flavor and the texture (I love gummies). Will use again and highly recommend!
Helpful, a little dry!
Purchase the chews on a little whim because they were on sale. I had not ever used chews or gels like this before. While on my trip, I bonked the wall 2 miles outside of camp and still had an elevation change to contend with. Half the pack (four gels) helped me get through my bonk and make it into camp. The gels tasted just fine, not chalky after taste or weird feeling. Just like candy. I had a bit of a dry mouth at the time, so the gels went down a little hard. It would be nice if they were kind of like "Gushers!" lol.
Great Longrun Fuel
I have tried all sorts of different mid-run fuels and these are probably my favorite. What I really like about the energy chews is that I am able to eat 1 or 2 or 5 gels when I want to. I am also not left with a sticky messy package when I am done eating.
