It Can Puncture Your Tube | Ambivalent
It protects from flats but also creates flats. The RhinoDillo itself can punture the innertube. The ribbed edge where the RhinoDillo overlaps with itself creates place to rub the tube that in time puts more pressure on one small point of the tube. In time it will move and shift, and wear and rub, and puncture the tube. Also, especially in cold air, the RhinoDillo itself can become brittle and crack. Those cracks will pinch the tube and puncture the tube. See pictures below. All in all, I was protected from flats for longer than normal. I even biked through glassy areas and came out with no flats for several months. Then paradoxically, when I did get a flat the culprit WAS the RHINODILLO.
Rhinodillos tier liners cause flats - cut my tubes
Last year I got flat tires frequently on my road bike and decided to install tire liners. Since I wanted to get it right away, I went to local REI store to buy one. Unfortunately REI has stopped carrying Mr. Tuffy, so I get the only thing REI carries which is Rhinodillos. Online reviews seem to be good. They appear to be bulkier which give the false impression that they must be tough and durable. After a few months, my front tire got a flat. While trying to replacing the tube at REI, we found there are two big gashes on the liner and the sharp edge of the gashed liner actually cut the tube to cause the flat. The two gashes aligned the locations of the tube cuts. There are no punctures or cuts on the tire itself and there is no foreign object inside the tire. The Rhinodillos liner just cracked open by itself. After this failure, I bought a pair of Mr. Tuffy which I had used on my Mt. bike before. After getting the Mr. Tuffy, I replaced the front but left rear alone since Ultegra 6800 rim is tough to put tire on. Last week my rear tire got flat too, after taking out the tube and found out again the Rhinodillos tire liner in the rear has a big gash and its edge cut the tube to cause the flat. Again, there is no puncture or cut on the tire and no foreign object between the tire and the rim. It was ridiculous that Rhinodillos liners not only do not protect the tubes from getting flat but actually cause the flat. This is by far my worst bike part related purchase. I should have just got Mr. Tuffy in the first place.
inferior product!
Installed tire liners, 2 months later rear wheel flat, no punctures, tube had half inch slice. Installed new tube and 20 miles later, rear flat, another half inch slice in tube. Discovered end of tire liner split and sharp edges cut the tubes. Very disappointed, these were supposed to be the best!
No more flats!
After experiencing a rear flat in three successive 20 plus miles rides, I installed a RhinoDillo Tire Liner between the tube and the rear tire and have not experienced a flat since. Note that there are different size RhinoDillos for different size tires and two come prepackage. I used only one, in the rear tire, as I have never had a flat in the front tire.
I recommend NOT buying Rhinodillos.
Rhinodillos did not work for me, nor did they work for installed tubes which flattened from the Rhindillo after 50+ miles and showed wear of inside of tire also. They also did not prevent a puncture from a thorn while riding the canal bank which is very traveled without brush.
Internal flat caused by Tire Liner
Wish I had paid closer attention to the reviews. The liners do not seem to seat properly inside the tire and eventually sliced into my tube after less than 200 miles. Going back to Mr Tuffy's which have served me well in the past.
Gave me a flat, twice.
the thing split inside the tire and punctured the tube, twice.
A No Brainer!
More confident ride… use to get flats more times then I’d like. I ride a trail but have to use surface streets to get there. People throw glass bottles out windows with no concerns and more than half are in bike lanes. On trails there a thistles, which can puncture a tire quickly. The liners have made my rides more enjoyable with less tire flats. So I highly recommend these, based solely upon experience.
No more flat tires on my commute
I have not had a flat tire since installing these liners. The end flap, which is needed to provide sufficient overlap of the liner to prevent a pinch point, is soft enough to keep the ride as smooth as the road allows it to be. 99% of my commute is on paved roads with little to moderate debris in the bike lanes, and near the shoulder of the slow lane, respectively.
No Flats
I've had these on my bike for a year and I haven't had a flat since. I don't even carry a spare tube anymore... Even though I probably should
