This is my first bike as an adult (46 yrs old) and I’m no bike expert. Size: I’m 5’3” and small fits great. Function: I don’t have much to compare this bike to but can say it’s quite lightweight and operates smoothly. The front suspension makes those surface transitions smooth. Style: I originally was unhappy with the color (I know- dumb thing to be concerned with) HOWEVER- in the sun the color is much prettier than in the store. Love the reflective ring around the tire. The black handles and handlebar looks great. Overall very happy with this bike and the service I received at my local REI!
I love this bike! I'm not a hardcore rider, just a weekend warrior, so this was the perfect price point, size, fit, etc. I had a cheap road bike that I was looking to replace so I thought I'd be looking at road bikes, but I'm glad I went with this one instead. I'm so dang short (5" tall on a good day) that the step-through option works a lot better for me to get on/off, especially because I do mostly city trails (Minneapolis) and commuting, so being able to stop and stand comfortably is important to me, and that's not possible on a lot of bikes. I ended up test riding this bike in a XS and S, and I liked the XS much better and purchased that size. Also, being hunched over on a road bike can really aggravate my joints in my wrists, hands, and arms, and I've noticed that's gotten a lot better with the ergonomic grips that come with it. Plus, the paddle shifters and disc brakes rule. Everything feels super smooth and reliable. I read the other reviews about the seat being uncomfortable, but honestly that's par for the coarse for any bike purchase. Everyone's tush is different! I ride 40-50 miles per day and it might start to get sore around 30, but I haven't felt the need to swap it out with a new one yet. Also, it's worth noting that the front tire is extremely easy to take off and put back on. I don't use a bike carrier so I just take the front tire off, lay the back seat down flat, and lay the bike down and push it in through the trunk. I like that it's light enough for me to manhandle on my own. Probably a good 600-700 miles on it so far, so good!
I love this bike. I use it on both trails and road. I find it super comfortable including the seat, but clearly this isn’t the case for all women. I’ve had the bike for about 2 years. I use it everyday and even took a week long bike tour. I’ve been biking for 50 years including a cross country bike trip and numerous other long distance bike trips and this is my favorite bike so far. It is reasonably priced and durable.
I was using my son's CTY 2.1, size Large, and I really liked the bike's features. However, the bike was too big for me. So I bought my own CTY 2.1 Step-Through, size Medium. I like the step-through, the disk brakes, and the gear shifters. Another reviewer complained about the provided seat. Every new bike is sold with a (very) basic seat. If you want a better seat, then buy one and install it.
Bought this bike brand new 2 years ago in Richmond, Virginia. It is for a 5’3 to 5’6 adult. I am 5’5. I have trouble getting on it because my foot doesn’t clear the bar and I have trouble getting off of it. My hands go numb from the handlebars. I changed out the seat right away. This is all so disappointing. I’m curious what could I have done differently?
Perfect bike for riding around the neighborhood to stay in shape. It handles the gravel and overgrown paths with ease and is just as great on the road/sidewalk. I've ridden through several patches of goathead thorns and I've only had to pull 1 out of the tire tread, with 0 punctures. Being a step-through, it was a little challenging to find a horizontal wall-mounted bike rack for the garage.
I love this bike! Took a few different ones for test rides in store and settled on this one easily. Gears are simple and easy to use. It is a nice mic for riding on the river trail or on easy dirt trails - nothing really off road. I did buy a different saddle, though everyone's body is different and it doesn't directly relate to the bike itself. I also connected a bike trailer for my daughter very easily to it - for someone with very little experience with bikes this has been easy and great
I was looking for a bike that would make 25+ mile rides on bike/running trails enjoyable. I wanted a bike that allows me to ride comfortably (I'm 5'5", female, 60+ years old), suspension and disc brakes. I have found my perfect retirement bike in the CTY 2.1. It rolls down the trail very nicely, shifting is flawless, and so far I always feel like I could keep riding more miles when end my workout. It's not super light but certainly light enough that I can easily lift it on and off my tray bike rack. The bike department at REI in Central Florida did an outstanding job of explaining the functions of the bike, adjusting the gears, fitting the seat and handlebars to ensure a comfortable ride. After about 150 miles, I took the bike in to the same REI bike shop to make some very minor tweaks. One of the techs (Will) spent quality time with me answering questions such as what to do if the chain slips off, if I have a flat, how to remove the front wheel if I want to transport inside my vehicle, etc. When I left, I felt totally confident in venturing onto trails that aren't as heavily traveled since I now know how easy it is to fix common problems that I might encounter while riding. I could not be more pleased with my choice of bike or with the customer service from REI.
I’ve owned mine for a month. I’ve riden it 8x. Bike is great. Who the heck designed this seat for a woman? I paid plenty for the bike and now have to shop for an improved seat. I cycle at the gym daily so cycling is not new to me. Honestly, it is very difficult to spend two hours on this seat.
It’s hard to say this but i like this bike better than my Specialized Sirrus who is carefully kept in storage and might go to one of my kids if they want a really good bike. But this one is only a little heavier with drop handlebars and disc brakes. I remember when i got the Sirrus over 15 years ago how I could feel it cutting up road. This cuts up my biggest hills. It is hard to say goodbye to my old bike, i feel bad writing this and storing it: we had a lot of good rides. But this is the next great evolution from there.
