Good bike for petite senior
I have had this bike for several months. I mostly ride on paved bike paths with occasional use on gravel. If you you are An older rider or short/petite this bike is worth looking at. I'm 5'2", weigh 118.I am70years old and want to stay fit and active. I was having trouble finding a bicycle that works with my size and physical limitations. With mild arthritis in my ankles and tendonitis in my shoulders I needed to find a bike that was ergonomically right for me. The staff at REI were very helpful and suggested several possibilities. I chose this one because the small size was a good fit, the upright seating position is easy on my shoulders and the shifting is quite easy. The main selling point though was the arm reach, which was not quite right on most bikes I tried. Those are all pros. The only con is that the weight of this bike is a bit higher than average because of the shock absorbers I don't mind, but if you have to lift your bike a lot it might matter. Bottom line: a quality bike that meets my needs.

Rides well but design flaws for a "city" bike
I primarily bought this bike for commuting in New York City, particularly to areas that are public transportation deserts, as well as, weekend recreational cycling. Overall, it rides well. Good on the varied terrain of Brooklyn and Manhattan streets, and bridges - cobblestones, potholes, grates, manhole covers and slatted wood "boardwalks" and bridges. The gear shifting is smooth so I don't loose stride on the uphills or downhills. There are definitely some design and construction issues that I wish I could rethink in making the purchase. First, off is the quick release seat. A quick release seat just doesn't seem like a good idea for a commuter cycle, which a lot of people use a hybrid for, especially in NYC. I bought an extra cable to lock up the seat so it doesn't get stolen, because I am not going to carry it around with me. And, unless you are bike sharing, I don't see the value. Secondly, the mounting of the reflectors doesn't seem to take terrain into account. Although, I had it checked as part of the purchase in the store, a few bumps on the road the front reflector would be hanging face down on the handle bars. I tightened myself and its holding steady. The reflectors on the peddles, however, are all gone after one or two rides, slipped right out of their slots. Lastly, its heavy and the frame design given my height is awkward to get up and down stairs if you live in a walk up.

assembly required

I bought two of the Co-op bikes so we could get out and all ride our bikes as a family during the quarantine . We put the first one together in about an hour from unwrapping to final assembly. The second one was even faster. The bike gurus could have accomplished it much faster but we enjoyed the father daughter time together. The seat was already mounted, we only had to put-on the quick release for the for the front tire, handle bars and the pedals. The instructions were amazingly easy to follow. It even included a handy set of allen wrenches!

A Happy Last Minute Switch

I originally purchased a Ghost bike online (tore pickup). Despite a ton of research and measuring, when I went to pick up the bike at my REI store, it was way too big (female, around 5'4"). I couldn't justify taking that bike on an upcoming vacation. Normally, I'd just pick out another in-stock bike - but the bike shortage had them pretty much wiped out. Then, the associate offered me a different bike that happened to just come in - the CTY 2.1 Step Through. I took it for a ride nthe parking lot and desparate, I was sold. The bike fit my needs for some great rides on our trip - a comfortable ride! Looking forward to using it for years.

Great Bike!

This bike replaced an REI mountain bike (XS) I bought several years ago. My previous bike seemed a little too small (I am 5'5"), but this bike is a perfect fit. I am also really impressed with the braking system and overall ride. I usually ride on paved trails and am really enjoying riding this bike . It is not as well suited as my mountain bike for unpaved/rocky trails since the suspension is not designed for that like my mountain bike is, but it handles well enough for the amount of time I spend riding rougher trails. In my opinion it is a great dual purpose bike.

this bike *secretly* does it all

Can't express how much I love this bike. I bought this with the purpose of simply riding to and from work, but I've ridden this thing all over Alaska. I've loaded it up with panniers full of camping gear and have gone on multi-day tours over mountain passes over rocks, gravel, pavement, everything. I've climbed hill after hill right next to friends with $1500 touring bikes with no problems. It was left out all winter in -40 temps and emerged like new. this bike is sick y'all

Fantastic women's specific hybrid bike!

I love this bike! After deciding to replace my rusty bike I got as a kid I did a ton of research on brands, components, and features. This is one of the best women's hybrid bikes on the market for less than $1k. The aluminum frame is great, and the front suspension fork gives me enough cushion over bumpy roads. All of the components work great 10 months after buying and I'm excited to use the bike for years to come. I love the larger tires and all the reflective details. I'm happy with the sizing of this bike because I finally don't have to lean extra to reach the handlebars.

Perfect for the city

This is the first time I have spent significant money on a bike and it has been 100% worth it. The hydraulic brakes make me feel safer while navigating the terrible city drivers, the suspension makes the ride smoother when hitting rough roads, and the tire size is perfect middle road to make me feel confident when taking on a rough patch of the streets. It's light enough weight that I can pick it up easily. Absolutely no complaints and great bang for the buck.

Wonderful bike- co-op

I am a short old lady 72) that likes to ride -in spite of a new knee, screws in my back etc.- my new extra small sized bike is light weight enough for me load on my car- it shifts like a dream and the bigger tires make it an easier ride for me further - it’s wonderful!

GREAT bike!!

This bike was purchased to ride on the streets for twenty mile rides and on the local NCR trail. As my first bike in over twenty years, it's a breeze to ride. I'm 5'5" and ordered a medium rather than a small since I don't have particularly long legs. I have the rack put on it for swimming gear as well as lights and a horn. While it doesn't have a place to put on a water bottle, I prefer an osprey backpack anyway. My goal is to use it indoors on a Wahoo stand over the winter and in warmer weather then attach a Burley dog carrier which I checked on before ordering. This bike meets all of my needs and it is money well-spent.
