After trying to cook spaghetti, and then tomato sauce with Jetboil with regular valve (basically on/off, or full on /3/4 on/off), I am very happy that the valve on the Mighty Mo works as advertised (9 turns stop to stop instead of 4), and coupled with the regulator function, I could throttle tomato sauce to just barely simmering, and heat it without burning. Ditto pasta. I got the 1.5L fluxring pot, and 1/4 box spaghetti broken in half works! My Jetboil Flash will now be consigned to coffee duty, or boiling water for freeze dried dinners, as it was intended. While I sauté and sizzle under perfect control with Mighty Mo...
I was getting ready to buy the Snowpeak stove of similar design. The girl at REI suggested this one and said the staff liked it better. I got home and played with it. It has amazing simmer control, extreme heat output on high, and is much more stable than I imagined it could be. Just cooked up a pot of percolated coffee to test it out. The coffee percolator is a bit topheavy, but this thing held it solid. Great Buy!!! Can't wait to use it in the woods. It's replacing an old MSR white gas Whisperlite; this thing is soooo much smaller and convenient. That white gas stove was a pain in the butt and didn't simmer at all. This thing fits in the cup of my GSI Backpacker mug, too. So it's a huge improvement. The height of the burner above the canister is nice and protects the canister from heat, but it does make it a bit harder to use a windscreen. But that's the only knock on it.
I love this little stove!! It regulates the flame very well and is pretty efficient. My family of 3 car camped for 4 days and we used this to cook at least 2 meals each day. Our 8.11 oz fuel canister was barely empty. Can’t wait to get out there and use this more and expand our meal menu!
I chose this stove because it is lightweight, uses gas canisters, and has an ignitor. Within the first few weeks, the ignitor stopped working. I decided not to return it because, without the ignitor, it was basically identical to the stove that I would have exchanged it for. I frequently used the stove (and enjoyed it despite the ignitor problem) for about a year and a half until it stopped working entirely. Now, turning the valve does not cause gas to come out of the stove, rendering it worthless. Unfortunately I'm passed the warranty window for REI and for Jetboil so I'm going to have to get something else.
On day two of my current AT through hike the ignitor started shorting to the center column. By day five the burner could not even boil water in 40 degree Fahrenheit temperatures. I tried four different fuels with no better results. I packed the stove in a hard case for protection with some other minor sundries so as to not be jostling about. There is no way I could possibly recommend this stove for anyone considering other canister stoves such as MSR pocket rockets, soto's, and cheap knockoffs were running just fine and on canisters I borrowed to test with this burner.
Most negative reviews state that the ignitor stops working. Simply go to the Jet Boil website and watch the tutorial video on how to position the little wire in proper position. We love our Jetboil Flash, but that model is only good for boiling water, where the Mini Mo you can fine tune the flame down to a simmer so that you can cook and not just scorch. Unfortunately Jetboil Flash cups do not fit on the Mini Mo, but hey, Jetboil, take more of my money because I love your products.
Long time JetBoil user (Flash System) and happy w/ it! I tried the MightyMo looking to reduce about 1/2 pound w/ stove and boiling pan change. The weight was better after the change, but the MightMo I had was odd in the gas settings. I would have to turn it way up to even get a small flame, and it burnt gas faster than I breath O2. One morning I woke to an empty gas canister - MightyMo had let the gas escape - if I did not turn all the way off, or MightMo had leak - doesn't matter. Any gadget that is this difficult and causes 2 days of no gas ... take back immediately and I'll keep the extra Flash 1/2 pound for now.
Overall this is a great little stove....as long as you do not mind the igniter not working. I have been through two of these and both igniters stopped working within a few uses. You can see the spark below the burner but it does not make it to the gas. Both of these units were only used during kitchen trials and never saw the trail. Other than the igniter failure the stove performs great. You have excellent burner control from flame thrower to sizzle. Boils water almost as fast as a Sol and is super light. FWIW, I have an original Jet Boil that is still going strong and a Sol that has 50+ trail days. Both are fully operational. I am a big fan of Jet Boil but it seems like they missed the mark with the igniter. If you don't mind using a lighter then go for it....
I originally purchased this stove for a backcountry fishing trip, thankfully we brought other sources of food that didn't need to be heated up. The stove fired up great the first 2 or 3 times then the ignition quit working. When the stove actually ignites it works great, it is super easy to control and maintain a boil or simmer, but unfortunately I am on my 3rd mightymo because of the same ignition issue. If Jetboil could fix this issue this stove would be fantastic and I would for sure recommend it, but until then I'd say save your money and look for other options
So far this has been a great little stove that boils water incredibly fast but can be micro adjusted for God coffee and general cooking. My one piece of advice is; the stove comes in a soft bag with the ignitor as the highest point, if the bag snags the wire end of the ignitor and pulls it out of the mms of distance from the burner as described in the manual you will see a spark but the burner will not light. The problem is easily corrected by pushing the wire back down a few mms. I decided on this stove because I feel like the build quality has been going down in the MSR's materials and the snowpeak and MSR stove were loose and felt alot more fragile. Ask your local store which they see returned the most in your area.
