Sizing Notes

Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements. Some women's pants are available in petite and tall sizes. Typically petite sizes fit women 4'11" to 5'3". Regular sizes fit women 5'4" to 5'8". Tall sizes fit women 5'9" to 5'11".

PETITE: Generally, as compared to regular sizes, petite sizes are 2.5 inches shorter in inseam, 1 inch shorter in body length, 1.25 inches shorter in sleeve length and ¾ inch shorter in total rise.

TALL: tall sizes are 3 inches longer in inseam, 2 inches longer in body length, 2.5 inches longer in sleeve length and 1.25 inches longer in total rise.

Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.

Inseam is measured to the floor.

Comfy and sturdy
The fit on these was perfect for me. I'm a proportionate 5'7" 150 lbs. I also tried on the Classic Sahara pants, but preferred the little bit of stretch in this version for climbing over downed trees in the National Forest. The fabric is seriously strong. I was climbing over a downed tree where the branches had broken off leaving ragged 3-4 inch stumps. I didn't clear one such stump, receiving a significant bruise on the side of my knee, but received only minor scratches. There was not a tear, or even snag in the pant fabric. Based on the severity of the bruise, I think the fabric saved me from a nasty gouge. The pants dried quickly after sloshing though streams and stayed put over the hiking boot shaft, and protected me from the mosquitoes.

I love everything about this pants except for...
The front button pops open whenever I sit down or tighten my core it's not like the pants it's self is very tight when I lock the button. It even has extra room and i sometimes have to pull up. but the button cannot hold any pressure when it is given. it happens even when im hiking, sitting down on the car seat to drive :/

Great once you get them on!

These pants are a nice color, very lightweight, and easy to convert to and from shorts. The snap by the ankle allows you to just open the side zippers as vents without the pant flopping around. They are fitted for a woman’s body and are flattering on, however the zipper is short so it’s hard to pull them up over my hips. But once they’re on they fit lovely and true to size. The zipper on each leg is also color coded so you don’t get them mixed up! Very cool. (REI, you should move the zipper to the hip to make it longer so these are easier to get on!) Other than that I love them! Just be aware if you have wide hips they might be hard to get on.

Perfect for any terrain

These pants are amazing! I have owned them for a year now. They have been taking through hikes at Volcanoes National Park, Death Valley/Mohave Desert, climbing over Kentucky limestone, and hands and knees squeezing through small holes in caves. These are excellent pants that I would recommend to anyone. I would get a size larger than your true size. If there is any room, the adjustable waist fixes that easily. I have both the khaki pants and the olive green pants, and both are the same size and great fit.

Great for electrofishing, climbing, hiking

I climb, electrofish (backpack and boat), hike, and chase a Labrador puppy around regularly, and these pants have been great for everything. I’ll even just hangout in them, they’re so comfortable. They’re great inside of waders. The material is so light and dries so fast. As someone looking for a career in ecology, I can’t recommend these enough. Get them on sale.

Beware -- sizing inconsistent

I tried on and bought a pair of these pants and am very happy with them. However, at the same time I went back and got another pair in the same size but another color, assuming that they would also fit. When I got home and tried on the second pair, they did not fit. I went back to the store and found another pair in the desired color and size, tried them on, and took them home. When I ordered a third pair in another color online, they did not fit. So I ordered two more of the desired color online, and this time they fit. There seems to be a quality control issue here. I would give 5 stars except for this annoying problem.

these pants saved my dogs life

Loved these pants. The review about the zipper not staying up and snap at the bottom coming undone was not my experience at all. We got lost on a hike in Oregon and ended up having to walk through 4 miles of snow and my Dachshund did not have his coat as we did not intend on taking the snow covered trail. I zipped off the bottom of these pants and used them to dry my dog off and wrap him up to stay warm (Dachshunds can easily get hypothermia because their chest is essentially on the snow at all times). I would buy these pants again even if they were $200. They are amazing. No dirt stuck to them, they didnt get wet so I could dry my dog off a couple times. So glad I had these pants. They seemed true to size and were just frickin awesome!

Good for hiking, but not at all durable

Pro: I was excited to find these pants! They fit really nicely, are breathable and versatile. I wore them on a day hike and really enjoyed over some similar pants I own from different brands. Con: Unfortunately, on just the second wear I took them backpacking and after sitting on the ground/on rocks and generally being in a more rugged environment, the seat of the pants got holes/rips in several places. So disappointing because I was ready to buy duplicate pairs because I loved the fit so much. In the end, the cost isn't justified if they don't hold up after one trip. Best suited for light wear activities.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the slimmer fit!!

I own 3 pair of the REI Classic Sahara Convertible pants. I love them and especially the elastic waistband. I was hesitant about what size to order because of the previous review. I definitely wanted a SLIMMER LEG AND FIT! BINGO! Way to go REI!!!! You nailed this one! Great fit and look!! My ADVICE for shoppers is order 1 SIZE UP to balance out these pants not having an elastic waistband. I wear a 4 all day in the Classic fit and a size 6 in this WONDERFUL trial version is PERFECT!!! REI - DEFINITELY BRING THIS STYLE TO ALL STORES and MAKE MORE COLORS IN THIS SLIMMER FIT!!! The BEST ENHANCEMENT would be to add the elastic waistband to the slimmer fitting style. THANK YOU REI!!

The Best!

Loved these pants! Worked perfect for our 4 day backpack trip along the Washington Olympic Coast! We definitely did it all downed trees, Boulder fields, ropes, rope ladders, river crossings, and so much more! Having the zip off legs were great for crossing the water crossings and combing the tide pools! I was able to carry my phone in the leg pocket through all of that for easy access to get some amazing photos!!! I can’t say enough about these pants and I have 2 pairs of a name brand that are nice but the functionality and versatility aren’t there!
