Gear Junkie Ambiance!!
First off this is not a bright lantern nor was it designed to be a bright lantern. This mini flame lantern is purely for fun ambiance and to finish off your iso-butane canister. No mantle, it just releases a small amount of the butane to create a candle effect. You can make the flame higher and lower with a quick twist below the glass. AGAIN THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BE A BRIGHT LANTERN! This is total gear junkie fun!
Gorgeous Mood Lighting
Do you need this? No, but you should want it anyway. Creates several hours of fantastic warm candlelight using the seemingly empty fuel canister you were just about to puncture and recycle. No dripping was to worry about. Note there are two ways to control flame intensity, the main gas valve and by turning the body of the lantern by the tabs on the metal disk just below the glass. Flame height can be set anywhere between a few millimeters to approximately three inches (above the height of the glass shroud. It's fun, very light and utterly silent during operation.
wonderful ambiance!
This is an elegant alternative to a mantle lamp! Unlike mantle lamps, it is utterly silent. And unlike mantle lamps (or most LED lamps), it gives off a soft yellow light. Quite atmospheric, evocative of candle light, but brighter and more practical. However... unless I made a mistake, it seems to work only with Snow Peak-branded isobutane canisters. I tried it with an MSR canister and... nothing. Then screwed it into a Snow Peak Gigapower canister and it lit right up. Perhaps another reviewer can confirm, or point out my error.
Simple, beautiful, effective
I purchased the Snow Peak Mini Flame Nocturne lantern from REI for use in nocturnal settings where just a bit of quiet light not held in the hand was just the thing. It works simply and well. The accompanying manual covers the details of use more than adequately. It provides enough light to read snippets of information if necessary, though it is obviously not intended to be an actual reading lamp. Its hallmark is the provision of just enough light to be useful as ambience and for simple tasks as two or three share stories, etc. It works well with fuel canisters not bearing the Snow Peak label thus far, including especially the commonly available brands, even though the manual instructs one that it is intended for use only with Snow Peak ProIso canisters. Very pleased with the purchase.
perfect
If you don't believe in love at first sight you will after seeing this. It's a gem. Simply yet high tech. It easily became one of my favorite camp gear. I had a seemingly empty 110g canister that had enough fuel to last more than 3hrs. Started with an inch long flame that gradually shortened until the fuel was gone.
Compact, light, practical and groovy
Gives off more light than a candle and no messy wax to deal with which makes it very easy to move around the campsite. I used this mostly to light the things (drinks, munchies etc.) on a small table next to my chair while camping as well as during dinner for ambient lighting.
Save your money
It's exactly like you are turning on a cigarette lighter. The amount of light is so little, and you can’t really expect that this thing will help set a night mood beautifully, like candles do. If this thing can do, your cigarette lighter would do the same.
