Nice LRS/TR Caribiner
I purchased this biner to attach my LRS device to my harness. The Petzle Tangas fit well to hold my gear in place as well. I plan to order another one to use as a TR anchor for long days at the crag with beginner climbers. It's a well made product. The spring is only slightly stronger that my other Petzle & DMM auto lockers. Minor axis strength is 15 kN btw.
Used as main anchor tie for climbing or repelling
This is a 40kn, positive locking carabiner I use as a main anchor for hauling up. If you can find anchor spot, it is strong enough, I use it to hoist elk.
Auto locking carabiner
Works great! Very strong spring for the auto locking system. Only thing is that the advertisement shows a dark gray as the color when in reality it’s more of a true silver.
The right tool for the right application
The Metolius Steel Auto Lock Carabiner is an awesome device which is very well made and beautifully constructed. I failed to properly read the description so I missed noticing its weight and size, it wasn't right for the application I had in mind so I passed it along to an adventuring relative who didn't mind the size and weight.
Sturdy Carabiner!
Extremely strong and durable. Haven't had any issues. Feels weighty in hand.
Technically works, but usability is bad
I'm giving this carabiner 3 stars not because it's ineffective, but because the design is not the best. The spring on the clasp is VERY strong, which is good for safety, but is a pain to pull down and twist to get belay devices etc. through it. If you're rope climbing in a gym and need to take it on/off and all it is very difficult to open especially when your tired from climbing
HEAVY HEAVY HEAVY
Very heavy. Feels about double the weight of my big D it was supposed to replace. Same general size, same locking style, double the weight. It will work but it's unrefined - lacking the nuanced shape of other big Ds, hard somewhat sharp edges on the turning mechanism, a tight spring that wasn't quite meant for this purpose. And did I mention, heavy!!
