Excellent lightweight axe.

The axe is ridiculously light overall and most of the mass is where it needs to be, in the head. The bent shaft makes daggering on steep snow and ice so much more comfortable than it would be with a straight shaft. I was somewhat concerned about the lack of a real spike, but I was pleasantly surprised by its ability to bite into firm snow and neve. If you are accustomed to using your axe like a cane then this is not the axe for you. It is two short to use this way until the slope is beyond ~30 degrees. The short shaft also makes self arrest slightly more challenging and makes the axe less useful as part of an anchor (at least when placed vertically. The adze is small but functional. My single significant dislike about this axe is that it feels a little slick in a gloved hand. The texturing at the bottom of the shaft really isn't sufficient to give me a confident grip when swinging the axe overhead or chopping a platform. I will probably be adding a Sum'Tec style trigrest or some grip tape to deal with this issue. Petzl is releasing a very similar light axe in the future that comes with a recurve pick and and a trig rest. Overall, I'm glad I chose this over the CAMP Nanotech, which is probably its main competitor.
