Size chart

Sizing notes

This size chart is meant to be a guide only, as Danner styles are built from various footwear lasts that fit each foot differently. Generally, most people size down a half to a full size when buying Danner boots as compared to their shoe size from any major athletic footwear brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Light Hiker I've had. I have multiple "foot issues" which have limited my light hiking activity in recent years due to numbness and pain even with orthotics. I've also experimented with more than a half dozen pairs of light hiker boots (all of which great boots in their own rights and many well respected stalwarts of the light hiker world). Nothing helped. I use prescription orthotics. But need more cushion/protection. Got these as another try. Amazing. Did a 7 mile "urban hike" the last week and my feet didn't limit me at all. My conditioning did. These boots give me hope! This is gonna be a great year! Thanks Danner!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite Hiking Boots These are by far my favorite pair of hiking boots I've ever worn. Love the brown and red color combo and they perform even better than they look. My feet have stayed warm, comfortable and dry every time I've taken these beauties on a hike. Highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Hiking Boot This is the first pair of hiking boots I have ever purchased and I'm incredibly satisfied! There was little to no break in period. Some minor rubbing on the back of my ankle, but 99.9% sure that is due to not wearing the right socks. Have worn these on several hikes now; a couple times my whole foot was submerged crossing creeks, feet stayed dry. Crossed small patches of packed/slick snow without trekking poles and traction was good and feet stayed warm.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too much like a Hoka for me I thought I would love this boot because I have arthritis in my knee and was looking for something cushioned that would absorb impact. However, these were just too much for me and reminded me of Hoka tennis shoes. They were very cushioned, but fo Me personally it was too much. I couldn't "feel the ground" at all if that makes sense and so felt a bit unstable. Like standing on a balance pad at the gym.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cute and comfortable I got these for hiking in Iceland and didn't have time to break it in beforehand but it was perfect. Waterproof and comfortable. It's really cute too! I ordered half size smaller than my regular shoes and it fit just right even with thick socks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best boots These boots are seriously the most comfortable hiking boots in the world. Not too heavy and super stylish as well as waterproof. Would recommend

If you're in between sizes, do you recommend sizing up or down? I tend to be on the larger side of 8.5.

Asked by: rina
We suggest you go up in size.

I'm looking for the "low" cut version of this boot/shoe. Do any of your stores carry it yet?

Asked by: Gyszel
REI does not currently stock a lower cut of this boot (as of 03/06/17).

How do you recommend caring for these suede boots?

Asked by: amaries
We recommend cleaning the boots regularly with a footwear cleaner if possible. You can view more about hiking boot care online here: https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/caring-hiking-boots.html

Is the toe box on the small or large size compared to other boots? These aren't available at my local store to try on, so wondering about the roominess (my toes like their space).

Asked by: treefroggy
These hiking boots have an average toe box.

Normally wear a women's size 8, but always go half a size bigger with hiking boots to make room for my toes when coming downhill.  Is that necessary with these boots. I'm not sure based on what it says under the size chart?

Asked by: VSmith
We have heard some feedback that these do run fairly large, so it may be best to stick with your normal shoe size as that will still provide some extra room for your toes.

How well will these boots do for multi-day backpacking trips? Is there a technical spec for weight load? I typically don't pack more than 30-35lbs. Really like the reviews and look of these boots. Just want to make sure they'd do well for multiday trips

Asked by: Gabs
These boots can carry a 35 pound pack comfortably over well maintained trails.

I have gotten out of shape and I tend to roll my ankles on the simplest of hikes. I also have plantar fasciitis are these good for a beginner starting to hike again? Do they let your feet breathe? Thanks!!

Asked by: REI gal
These boots offer great support underfoot and are waterproof, but will not be the best option for greater ankle support, breathability and reducing the strain of plantar fasciitis. Please call REI at 1-800-426-4840, and we can provide some offerings that will better suit your needs.

Do these run true to size? I was thinking of sizing up half a size from my typical street shoe size (7.5) and ordering the 8 so I would have room for thicker socks, but wanted to see if you had any insight.

Asked by: edoublev
The women's Mountain 600 Hiking Boots run true to size with what Danner feels is enough room for comfort.
