The stitching on both pair of convertible pants I purchased failed miserably. One pair arrived with no stitching on the bottom of the rear pocket rendering it useless. The other rear pocket has now also come unattached. The crotch on both pair have failed and I've had to mend them. I thought Columbia stood for quality, now that perception is also frayed. We will see if it's beyond repair.

I had a pair of these I purchased 5 years ago that I wore 3-5 times a WEEK for years and they are still going strong. So I ordered 2 pairs expecting the same results. The new pairs are slightly different (they have a softer waste band) but they do not wear well. I have only worn the new pairs 3-4 times a MONTH for the last year and they both have stitching coming apart on the same rear pocket(I don't keep my wallet in that pocket). Very sad since I loved my original ones (and still wear them often). The photos are from the 2 new pair
These pants did not hold up well at all for hiking. The rear pocket seam gave way the first time they were worn with nothing more than a wallet in them. The fabric while comfortable and lightweight did not hold up well for some light rock scrambling we did on a trail the first time they were worn. I will be contacting customer service about a return.
I like this material very much, it is light and breathable with great flexibility. But I found that two pockets on the butt are all broken from the inside, and the sewing is worn out. As you can see, the left side is about a quarter coin size while the right side is even larger. Luckily I did not lose my wallet. Need some improvement!!!
Although very comfortable these pants have not held up for me. I've probably put about 200 miles on them. The hook and loop closure on the side and rear pockets is already failing. The right side rear pocket failed entirely - nearly lost my claddagh ring to that. Also, the waistband is not sturdy enough. I ditched the included belt because it's flimsy and went with a wider, stiffer belt, but it rides up through the utterly lacking waist band material and chafes my hips and lower back. These pants are good for casual strolls through even terrain. Don't bother using them for serious hiking.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] In Georgia summers we experience 3 seasons of weather throughout the day. These convertible pants are great for all three of them. Early mornings we get a slight “fall” chill in the air so we can leave the pant legs attached. Before you know it spring and summer move right on in and we have gone from comfortable to down-right hot humid steaminess which is when you unzip the legs on your pants to make shorts. I love this idea. These pants are great. The material is comfortable. Light but sturdy. The fit true to size. I do wish that there was at least one more but probably two more belt loops and one more cargo pocket on the right leg.
Both my wife and I have many Columbia shirts, coats, jackets, pants, shorts, gloves and hats. Recently I added 2 pair of green Silver Ridge pants to my Columbia Collection. I have different colors of these great pants, which I use both at home and on vacation. The versatility of the zipping off the bottom half of these pants converting them into shorts is great. My wife and I love to travel to tropical destinations and these pants just plain allows me to minimize what I need to pack for a trip, being a pant and a pair shorts all in one garment. Meaning I can use a carry on vs paying the penalty for check in luggage and still look great for our adventures.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I travel and hike full time with my kids all around the country. We have been to almost every state and every climate. These pants have been amazing! I wore them with just a pair of underalls underneath in Colorado all winter. Then when spring hit they were perfect by themselves. We were in New Mexico and Arizona in summer where the daytime temps were very high. The zippers for the legs are both fast and convenient. My cat also tore a small hole in the leg when i first got them and here we are a year and a half later and the hole is the exact same size!! I love the material of these pants. Very durable and strong but pretty lightweight. I love these pants!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought these for an 8 day hike in the high Sierra. Held up great in fact looked great when I exited the trail despite not having been washed. Only used the zip off feature a couple of times but zippers work great and love how they are identified right and left. Saw weather from rain to hail to snow to bright warm sun. Seemed to dry fast while wearing and did great wicking perspiration. The legs did get saturated once and did not dry so well hanging in my tent but that could have been due just as much to weather conditions. Material held up very well despite scrambling over granite and fallen trees. Excellent product
I purchased 3 of these Columbia Silver Ridge pants from a major outdoor recreation retailer. All have the same problem: the back pockets are formed by stitching a patch of mesh material to the inside of the fabric seat of the pants. The stitching unravels and the mesh separates from the seat of the pants, creating big holes in the pockets. Almost lost my wallet, but luckily felt it sliding down the inside of the trouser leg. Upon examining the other two pants, they too have this condition on both the left and right back pockets (I never even use the back left pocket). Additionally, the belt loops are not optimized. There are only 3 widely-spaced belt loops in the back, which results in the waistband of the pants pulling below the belt when bending over. Better quality convertible pants have more belt loops in the back, including two loops or a single wide loop at the middle back, with adjacent loops fairly closely spaced. I'm tired of constantly re-adjusting the waistband in the back! Finally, the fit is a problem. I originally bought the pants in my normal waist size of 34 inches. The pants were so tight in the thighs and hip that I could not put them on. So I returned the 34-waist pants to the retailer and after experimenting with larger waist sizes in the fitting room I found that a 40-inch waist size is needed to provide a comfortable fit in the thighs and hip. So I bought the pants with 40-inch waist size. However, the resulting loose waistband requires a lot of cinching in with the belt, which worsens the effect of the poor belt loop design. Very disappointing, after paying premium price for these three pants, and I probably haven't worn any of them more than a dozen times for casual-duty use. The retailer won't take them back due to the purchase being more than a year ago. Looking at customer reviews on the retailer's website, the pocket and fit problems appear to be frequent and long-standing issues. My fault for not doing more research in advance, as I relied on my years of overall satisfaction with Columbia outer wear. These Silver Ridge pants fall far short of expectations.
