Rated 2 out of 5 by from OK but overpriced The thing is lightweight, reasonably close to windproof and water repellant (but, as I learned at a football game, very far short of waterproof). The biggest failing though is that it is simply not warm as the manufacturer skimped on insulation especially in the back part. If you are looking for something to wear in in windy conditions with light moisture, this is a very fine choice but at any temperature below 30 degrees, you will definitely want something more substantial than this thing. For instance, I wore it today in 10 degree weather and was definitely wishing I had grabbed something more substantial. For almost $400, I guess that I expected more.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not sure what its good for This jacket seems light on fill, if it wasn't wind proof (it is definitely wind proof, but even moderate wind is enough to completely collapse the down insulation) I don't think I would ever wear it. The outside fabric is water proof but the stitching lets water right through and if you have any spin-drift get down in it, it will soak right though the inside fabric and collapse the already thin down insulation. It is definitely not a insulated shell or puffy down parka, rather a water-resistant down jacket with little to no loft. Not warm enough for the ice and snow. Not waterproof enough for the rain and humidity. Overall an expensive coat that does not do anything well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Way too big! I am livid about the fit of this jacket, it runs at least a size or two larger than other OR jackets! As a reference I have the trancedant down hoody, uberlayer, and radiant hybrid hoody (which are all sweet products!) all in size large and they fit perfectly, the sleeves fit and the hems all end at the waist and I'm right around 5'11"-6' but for what ever reason the floodlight comes all the way down past my junk and covers my butt! It's as though the person who designed the jacket thought you might not be capable of putting on pants or needed extra wiping material in the backcountry. And to top it all off I was sent the wrong color.... Lame...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product Haven't been precipitated on in this jacket yet, but it's a great outer layer. I took it out of the packaging, threw it in the duffel and drove to Yellowstone. We encountered sub freezing temps and the jacket performed well. I (5'11 160) am usually the standard slim fit medium but I wanted a bigger fit for this jacket and I could not be more stoked on the size large with the slim fit. I plan on skiing colder days and riding around town with this coat. The hood is great, nice openings at the wrists, longer at the waist and light considering it's a hardshell. The lightness worries me durability wise, but only time will tell.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bomber For Bad Weather Super warm. Windproof. Waterproof (as far as I've found, haven't had it in a straight downpour yet). It's not often you get all of that in a jacket. My only complaint is the fit--very slim. I'm 5'10", 165lbs, and the medium just doesn't give too much room for layers underneath (generally it's been warm enough). The large gives the space in the torso and arms, but then the sleeves and cuff are much too long. With that, and this not being the most packable jacket, I wouldn't take it on a trip where space is at a premium, and you plan on taking it on and off for transitions or such.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointed overall I think the quality of the jacket is just fine. However, it's really not that warm. Also, it's noisy and crinkly. I like the cut a lot, however, and it fits me very well. However, it just needs way more down. I mean, in spots, it doesn't even feel like there is any down, just the shell and the liner. Bought brand new from OR, and let it fluff out. I really want to like this jacket, but it just doesn't do the job. Maybe in like 30+degree weather it'd be fine, but just running errands in 0-10 degree weather, it don't cut it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well designed, super warm, bad zipper Used this jacket for skiing and cold, high wind hiking. It's a great piece that will absolutely keep you warm when needed. I wore a light fleece and light puffy jacket underneath. When taking breaks, and it performed beautifully. Too warm for activities above 25F, but great as a belay or rest jacket. The plastic YKK zipper could definitely be improved but it's not a dealbreaker for me. Ykk usually makes good zippers...Not sure what went wrong. Cuffs are great, the hood is my favorite I've ever worn, and the fit is excellent. Medium, 168lb Male, 5'11

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Failed seems x2 This was my favorite jacket but the laminated seems failed on me twice! This caused all the down to sink to the bottom of the jacket. The first time it took about a year, but the second time it only took 2 days, and I only wore the jacket in the car before it failed! As always OR was awesome, and they let me exchange the jacket for another model.

I'm 5'10, 175lbs. Typically wear a large. Only medium and XLarge are left in stock. Do you think either of these sizes would work well for me?

Asked by: tsunamibg
It is possible the XL size will fit, especially if you intend to layer underneath. We recommend taking your chest measurement and comparing that to the measurement in the size chart attached to REI.com.

How does this jacket compare to the Diode in terms of warmth?

Asked by: Pete82
We do not provide temperature ratings on clothing because warmth depends on so many different variables including activity level, metabolism, perspiration as well as the other clothing layers you are wearing. Because of this, we cannot compare warmth between the two jackets.
