Not long lasting
Typically love Osprey products but after just 2 years, my 3 liter has started deteriorating. I keep it cool and dry in a closet drawer when not in use- and now it’s completely unusable.
Pour spout is amazing!
I bought the 3L and have used it on multiple backpacking trips. In the past, I have used alternative versions of this bladder with average feedback. The Osprey version comes with a magnetic clip to keep your mouth piece in place, and also has a pour spout that seperates the product from it's competition. Being able to easily move large amounts of water from on container to another while cooking makes your trail experience ao much better. I usually try to save money on gear where I can, but this is a product that is certianly worth a few extra dollars. Pros: Pour spout, magnetic mouthpiece clip, detachable hose, flat back Con: price, non insulated tubing
Easy to fill, tastes like plastic
I found this bag relatively easy to fill. With great care I was able to fill it STILL in my fully loaded (25-30 pound) overnight backpack by using a standard bottle to dump into it. It didn't slip down all the way when I did that, but worked fine without spilling. My only complaint is the taste of plastic. It is always there, the longer the water sits in it, the more plastic you are drinking. This made getting it filled and ready the night before for a quick morning take off impossible. We got these for the whole family, and my son's for a funny green tinge in it for some reason, which doesn't wash out. Don't know why.
Osprey reservoir vs. Gregory reservoir both 3L
I bought this and the Gregory 3D Hydro Reservoir at the same time. They were about the same price. I have an Osprey pack so I thought an Qspry reservoir would fit better. My partner has a Gregory backpack so I got him the Gregory For the same reason. Well it turns out after using them that either brand fits both packs the same. I think after using them both now that the Gregory is a better, easier to use and clean water bag. I like the big round cap on it because it makes it easier and less fussy to use and manage especially in low light situations, and I prefer the mouth piece as well. So my opinion after using them in the field is that the Gregory is better choice.
Like the top closure better than the old version
I need the large capacity for desert backpacking. The hook is not strong enough for the 3L of water and broke the first use. Also, the hose turned yellow and I only use it for water. I DO like the new system of filling compared with the old screw-on lid that would never align right and lose water. It is also lighter than the older version. I like the hose disconnect to allow for easier fill. I do not like needing two hands to open bite valve.

Trail tested 7/22/17
I bought this as an add-on to my Osprey Stratos 34 day pack, and I am very happy I did. Used the Hydraulics reservoir for the first time on 7/22 for a hike up Mt. San Antonio aka Mt. Baldy. This is roughly an 11 mile loop, with 4500 ft. elevation gain and I had plenty of water left (about a liter by the time I got back). Although it was suggested to rinse the reservoir with lemon water prior to first use, I skipped the step and did not have a 'plastic' taste. I really like the hand grip to get the reservoir in- and out of the bag, quickly as well as the quick disconnect from the drinking hose. The fact that a magnet was included to hold the hose easily and securely to your back strap was a nice unexpected surprise. I am very happy with this purchase.
good ideas but major design flaw
I like the pour flap, wide opening, and other aspects, but on day 2 of a 5 day Yosemite backcountry hike the hang clip broke off. I gerry-rigged a fix with some cord to get through the hike. The thin construction of the hang clip is inadequate for a three liter reservoir when users are running, jumping, etc. Please fix, esp at this price point.
It's okay
Doesn't fit well in the kamber 30. Feels Very clunky. Not helpful in cold weather with mittens on. Adding the cap makes it hard to close the zipper of the hydration sleeve. Wanted it to replace keeping water bottles in my bag but still have to take off my mittens to access it through the zippers.
Manufacture Defect
I love Osprey, but they don't make the bladder and there is a manufacture defect. I have had to warranty two bladders now because of cracking on the tube inlet port where it goes into bladder. Apparently you are supposed to rub food grade silicon onto the plastic on a regular basis. I did not know that. Never did that on my old Osprey bladder. The plastic will crack and will lead to a leak all over your bag.
