I'm no entomologist!
I could Google what mosquitoes these work on, but if I did, I could guarantee that they do NOT work on whatever pesky buzzers populate Montana. As another reviewer mentioned, mosquitoes will actually land on the bracelets. The packaging does not specify that the product will only repel certain species, despite this page doing so. I picked these up in-store pre-pandemic, so I was completely unaware of the limitations. If it had been printed on the packaging, I would have at least given them a couple more stars in excuse for my own ignorance.
Didn't work!
I've worn these walking in the woods. I was swarmed by mosquitoes! I even wore one band on each arm! I was lunch for a bunch of hungry skeeters. Don't waste your money. I'm taking them back!! I even took a photo of one of the little bloodsuckers drinking right next to the logo on the band. How can you dupe people like that???
Does not work!
This item does not work. I am the perfect person to experiment this product because I always get attacked by tiger mosquitos and well I gave this item a shot and it did not work. So far the only thing that works for me 100% is the Repel Eucalyptus and Lemon natural scent. I wanted something else so I wouldn’t have to get stuff all over my skin but that doesn’t seem to be successful at all for me. I guess it’s on to another product because I will not be waisting my money on this again. Save your money. Wonder if I could get my money back.
Bug Bam
I was laying I a hammock on the beach in Turks and Caicos at around 9pm. I had bug bam attached to my left wrist. In 5 minutes I had 9 mosquito bites on the back of my right arm, 4 on my right leg and 2 on my left leg. Maybe it worked for my girlfriend since she was laying next to me and didn't get a single bite but definitely did not work for me.
Hard to tell if it made a significant difference.
I wore these on a backpack trip to Rubicon reservoir recently. The first one I put on broke off immediately because the little plastic fastener cracked in half. I ended up hanging it from my hat on a little piece of fishing line. Mosquitoes were still landing on me . Not quite sure I would solely rely on it.
I Wish This Worked...
I had high hopes this mosquito band would repel those pesky bugs and keep me itch free. Well, unfortunately no. I wore one bracelet and was optimistic it would do the trick as I could smell the citronella. I ended up with several mosquito bites on each of my shoulders. Maybe a redesign of the product would help? Or perhaps one might use this bracelet in addition to other repellent?
Nice idea but doesn’t work
I’ve used these on two trips so far. The first was Ipsut campground and it “seemed” to work great. I received no bug bites but the two people with me who didn’t have a band also received no bites. Just returned from neve campground at mount baker and we were devoured by bugs. The bands didn’t work at all. At one point a fried saw a mosquito on the hood of my hoodie trying to bite me but couldn’t because it was too thick. I even have a bug bite on the wrist the band was on.
Seems to work as advertised
I bought these for a trip to Costa Rica where I expected heavy mosquito activity. I wanted something that was easy to use for adults, teens and young children and not DEET based. We spent time in the central rain forest as well as on the Pacific coast. Surprisingly there were not very many mosquitos in either location. We did receive some bites when not wearing the bands but many fewer bites when wearing them. They seemed to work just as well after swimming and overall worked to keep the mosquitos away. Some in our party wore the band on the wrist, some on the ankle and sometimes we just put them on the table - all locations seemed to be about the same effectiveness. The package indicates approx 100 hours of effectiveness out of the packaging. I did notice the smell was decreased after a few days of use, for 12-14 hours per day but I wouldn't say the effectiveness was measurably reduced. The smell is pleasant. I was skeptical before buying but figured I would give them a try. I would buy again.
Cool idea, Major drawbacks.
Very clever idea, super cool to find a product that is DEET free and relatively easy to use...wish it actually worked as advertised, as the effective ingredient on the band washes away every time it is exposed to water. Perhaps the next generation will be better.
Not sure these work
I really like the way these bracelets smell. I used them while camping in the Everglades, and it did not seem to keep the bugs from harassing me.
