Weak adze connection

Adze separated from the body while using it to dig in mixed ice/snow, on its second expedition. Upon inspection the adze is connected by a weld, which failed. This product does not seem built for serious use. I would look for an axe which is formed from a solid monoblock of metal in the future.

Best Beginner Axe on the Market

If you are just looking for a solid axe and aren't doing anything super technical, this is what you are looking for. If you are doing steeper things, I'd recommend the Petzl Summit Evo over this because of its curvature and better feel. That said, for a beginner ice axe, or glacier travel, this is what you want. It is an excellent product for what it is. Not even a comparison between this and the Black Diamond axes. Have used them all, and this is far easier to self arrest and has a nicer feel than say the Raven Pro.

Best Ice Axe in the Market

Bought this Past February and I have to admit I was quite hesitant on getting this as some of the REI employees would recommend me to get the Black Diamond Raven Pro. After getting this ice axe I decided to summit Mt.Baldy, Cucamonga Peak, San Jacinto, and San Gorgonio in the snow. As I hiked these mountain I would have no issues. In fact I would say this ice axe is better than the Black Diamond. The first reason being the pick isn’t super sharp like the Black Diamond. Another reason is how it a tad bit lighter and costs a lot less than the Black Diamond Raven Pro for the same build quality. The third reason is how it has groves on the ice axe making it easier to have a grip on the ice axe. The next positive thing about this ice axe is how it comes with an leash and doing self arrests on both powdery snow and ice works as intended for the Petzl Glacier ice axe. If your looking at an good ice axe for winter mountaineering then look no further than the Petzl Glacier Ice Axe.

Almost perfect

This ice axe served me well in climbing DC route on Rainier. It is lightweight and 68cm worked well for me (5'10") and I still recommend it. However, I can't give this axe the highest rating. The top part where shaft connects to the axe head is made out of plastic. In a pinch, when hammer head is not available, that part could be used to hammer down pickets. I know that is not how axe with adze should be used, but making that part out of metal would made this axe more versatile.

Good all around axe.

I used this ice axe on Rainier (May 2021), and I found it sturdy, lightweight, and easy to hold/handle. A great workhorse axe for all around mountaineering, especially for the price point.

light but strong

Took this ax up Mt Hood for its first use. It is extremely light on the pack. Seems like it will hold up to seasons of use.

Glacier mountaineering ice axe good for beginners

It does what it’s supposed to. I think I need a shorter handle, but it got me to the top of Mt. Baker. Happy with it! It’s not really for ice climbing, but more glacier mountaineering. It’s a good beginner ice axe.

A well built product.

This is a great Ice Axe. It is light weight and extremely durable. I am very confident that this axe will last me a long time. My intentions for this axe are to use it while backpacking in areas where sliding down the snow is a possible issue. This axe will definitely complete that task.
