Bought this for a caving trip in southern Indiana. It obviously worked because my head isn't cracked open. It fits well, its comfortable. The roof of the cave didn't really scratch it up. The straps cleaned up easily. The clips on the side held my headlamp in place without issue. It is not itchy. The vents are helpful for retaining or bleeding heat as needed. The petzl elios is an affordable and good caving helmet. It works as described and designed.
I tried on some more expensive climbing helmets that i thought would look a lot cooler like the Black Diamond Vapor Climbing Helmet. However they all looked so bulbous on my head and weird. So i ended up just going with this guy. Pretty happy with it does what it needs to do and is pretty rugged compared to the lighter helmets. I would definitely go in and try them on before buying to see if you like the way they look and to make sure you get the right size
At first I ordered size 1, and even though I was within the size range for that one, it seemed to sit on top of my head instead of covering my head. At the store, they let me exchange it for size 2, which fits perfectly. It has proper head coverage, and the straps on it are easily adjustable.
Some pros: it's light, it has adjustable vents, adjustments are easy to use, clips for headlight. Some cons: seems to sit a little high on my head, and look a little awkward. Overall I really like this helmet, had all the features that I wanted for spelunking/climbing/repelling. It will definitely be my go to helmet.
Guys, this was a size 2, which supposedly is the bigger size. We did eight hours of caving the other day, and the straps chafed my ear the whole time, also it's hard to unsnap the buckle, I actually have to try to slide the whole helmet off (which is tight as heck due to the short straps) and then unsnap it. It's relatively a nightmare. You have been warned. Straps were at maximum length.
I got this helmet for caving/climbing. I have used this model before as a loaner and liked it. The straps are a bit short for people with a large head like myself but it fits well, and is comfortable. The vent are nice to control your heat when you are underground. I would recommend it to another beginner like myself.
I bought this helmet two weeks ago for an outdoor climbing, and this helmet is also my first one. It's very light and the ventilation is good in sunny days, so sweating won't be a problem. The price is well under my budget.
I like the hard shell. The suspension system is comfy-ish. The headlamp retainers work, but are a little hard to work with if you have a thick strap on your lamp.
Excellent helmet for the price. I got the white version for my first helmet and have been very satisfied. It is very comfortable for all day wear and the head band adjustment stays put! Giving 4/5 because the chin strap does loosen up on occasion. Not a huge deal, just pull it back tight.
Nice, secure helmet. Comfortable to wear even with glasses and a lot of hair. I've used it all seasons with no issue. Pair it with a multiclava and you're ready for anything- just wear it!
