Low density foam

Impact is an appropriate name, you'll feel one if you come off a taller boulder. Compared to organic or metolius the foam BD used is much softer and lower density. I jumped down off a moderate height problem, maybe 7 feet up, with a great flat landing (no protruding rocks or humps) and the foam fully compressed. I ended up with a lightly bruised heel. I've taken the same fall on well used organic and metolius pads w/o any issue. This was the first day out with the BD pad so the foam certainly was not worn out. I can't say that I was a fan of the adjustment for the shoulder straps either. If you're looking for a cheaper pad the session II is lighter and has far better foam.

Great size...

This is a great pad for travel: regular size, plenty thick, and the hinged construction really helps when you're checking bags for a flight. Lightweight, too, with briefcase-style carry handles.
