Good Gear; Could Be Better

It's really lightweight, which I like, but the trade-offs are waist belt and leg loops that are pretty narrow and may therefore provide less-than-adequate support in a really big fall. Still, probably fine for top-roping. The relatively stiff attachment straps for the leg loops do allow for a snug but comfortable fit in front with minimal rise, especially in the smaller sizes, and this is a plus for those of us who are relatively short-waisted. However for guys in particular, this same snugness around the pubic bone can produce exaggerated "bunching" (I don't know how else to say it tactfully except that the result is a perhaps embarrassing resemblance to a codpiece).

Great, solid, runs small

I'm 5'5", female, 125 pounds with a 24 in waist and I couldn't get the xs size over my thighs! Haha Had to return and get the small so that I wouldn't have to undo the entire harness every time I took it off. The small is perfect. I love the way it fits. It feels solid against the body and catches me nicely when I fall. Some other harnesses (from black diamond) that I tried made me feel really off balance when falling. I highly recommend this harness.

Light harness

This replaced my old double back black diamond. I mostly gym and sport climb and really appreciate the light weight. The leg loops fit me really well, but I would try on before purchasing.

Excellent alpine harness

I've climbed trad & alpine with this harness for a year. Obviously, it is light, but still fully functional, unlike other ultralight alpine harnesses. In the gym, I use the Sama b/c it has more padding. True, it isn't ideal to be hanging in the hirundos all-day, but how often are you hanging in your harness on ~15 pitches of low-fifth class? A huge plus: The front gear loops are actually huge (bigger than Sama). I can rack doubles and my quickdraws all on the front loops for easy access. They're also super stiff, so they don't bend or flop around funny, even when I'm racking two sets of C4s. The skinny belay loop is always a little scary ... but you learn to trust the dyneema. The extra webbing on the waist can also be tucked away into elastic straps so it doesn't get in the way of your gear. This has been the best harness I've used for any multipitch trad and alpine climbing when I want to be fast and light, but still fully functional. Heck, I use it for sport climbing too! I just try not to fall as much. I probably wouldn't use it if I were belaying a hangdogger, but it is still surprisingly comfortable for the make. I wouldn't use it for bigwall.

The ultimate sport harness!

The Hirundos has been an essential tool for red-pointing all my projects! It has allowed me to move freely while moving through crux sections, and when the process ends in a fall and working session, the comfort was more than I could ask for.

Size?

I have a 32" waist so I bought a Medium, and it the waist belt is too small by quite a lot. I suspect either their sizes are way off, they expect you to wear it naked, or it's a small mislabeled as a medium. Otherwise it's a nice harness.

Compact profile ideal for travel and backpacking.

As others already mentioned, the absence of leg loop buckles or adjustment features emphasizes the importance of sizing for this harness. I sized at the store and found that a large-size Hirundos perfect (I am 6'1" (185 cm) and have a 34 (86 cm) waist) but have biked or ran almost daily for a couple of decades, so my thighs stand out a bit. Try one on before you buy. Compared to my Petzl Adjama harness there is probably half the density of mesh-lined padding density along the waist and probably a third less thickness inside the leg loops. That said, I find it perfectly comfortable for gym climbing and I don't notice any discomfort while hanging from the walls and sorting out problems. The most appealing features for me are the Hirundos' compact features combined with the reduced profile for easy stowage. When I travel I usually end up only bouldering because my harness bag + shoes take up considerable space in my luggage (about the space of a pair of rolled-up fleece jacket), and I detest renting unfamiliar used climbing gear. Length-wise the Hirundos stow bag is the same as other Petzl harnesses, but the narrower waist, leg loops and reduced padding reduce the stow bag width, so it's far more compact for most travel bags, and even fits inside some carry-on side pockets. On impulse I bought the compatible Caritool accessories for this belt for possible future outdoor stuff, but now it seems like storage overkill among the other existing gear loops. If you're OCD about belt gear sorting, it could be an important addition, but I would consider a harness with more comfort features (padding and width) than the Hirundos if I was going long with extra components on extended pitches. Personally I would recommend this harness to beginners on a case-by-case basis: Compared to other Petzl waist closures the lightweight Hirundos seems a little easier to set up wrong, and the smaller loops and reduced webbing may make obvious mistakes more obscure for fellow climbers to spot. Meticulous new climbers shouldn't have too many concerns though.

Not labeled correctly

My husband got this in size large for himself. Its not labeled as a women's harness, but it's very small. It would be best to try it on before purchasing.
