Mobility Meets Casual

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had no idea of what I was expecting with the AP shorts when I placed the order. I certainly liked the idea of a different color, Cote du Rhone, which is a red wine like color that reminded me of the cranberry bogs the proliferate south shore of Massachusetts. Anyhow, it was a pleasant surprise to see the fabric was made of blended canvas that's 75% cotton, 23% nylon, and 2% elastane. It totally fits the bill of "comfort, durable, and excellent stretch" that they detail in the product description. I opted for something a little more fitting than before b/c I find tech fabrics can be worn a size down because they allow you to move, than inhibit any movement in one's outdoor pursuits. The seams are a nice addition to the design. I like the fact the two back pockets are zip pockets so my keys will not vacate themselves on any rigorous movement while hiking or scrambling over rock on climbs. I'd definitely go for another pair of these in another color and they're a plus for casual wear to events of any kind. One more note, on the care side of this product and color, Cote du Rhone, it may be best to hand wash in cold water and mild detergent the first few times around. Especially if you want to maintain the dark color and also keep the color bleed from affecting the rest of the laundry.

Excellent except 1 thing

Great shorts! My one issue is that due to some weight loss, I am wearing a belt with them, and the problem is the main closure button. It is really thick, so when a belt is worn, it pouches that button right into your gut. Very uncomfortable.

almost perfect

I purchased these with several out MH shorts. These are by far my favorite. They run slightly large in the waist. and Slightly narrow in the thigh area. I'm 6,4 195lb athletic build, My quads and thighs are not huge, these shorts are a bit tight but the length on point they hit right at or just above the knee. Other than that these things are super comfortable, stylish, functional. They have the perfect stretch and the pockets are awesome. I'd go down a size I normally wear a 33 and these are just a bit big when I purchase again I'll buy a 32in waist.

Good looking, rugged short

Love these shorts, and glad they offer them in a longer inseam. The cut is on the more athletic side which I love, but measurements are still true to size. The build is very rugged so I can do all the things and not have to worry about wearing them out. Only downside I've found is a pocket on the front right leg that seems to be a little awkward placement. Anything I put in seems to stick out and be difficult to remove. Not sure what the intention was here, but I just don't use it. Plenty of other pockets which work great so no issue for me.

Solid summer short

Excellent fit and cut. Maybe run a little tight in the waist and hips, slim through the leg. The new AP Active fabric is amazing. Its super soft, breathable, has great stretch. I am giving 4* because the front hip pockets are awkwardly short. I have a normal sized mobile phone and it won't fit in those pockets (or the rear pockets) vertically. Also, I wonder about the durability of the fabric long term. That being said, I am going to get another pair. I'd buy even more if these were a tad heavier and with 5 pocket styling.

2 shorts + 2 pants

I've really come to like the fit and function of the AP shorts (and pants). I now own the shorts in gray and tan-brown and the pants in tan-brown as well as dark green (which the later fit me the best- the tan-brown are a little too snug). I really like the zippered back pockets. Each time I use the back pocket the zipper functions very smooth. Quality and sturdy. I also appreciate the Velcro closer pocket on the right thigh for carrying my iPhone 6s which is in a case and still fits nice and snug.

AP = All Purpose or Awesome Pair?

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Have had the AP shorts for over a year now and love them. Yeah, they've faded a bit due to sun and wash, but are the torn, did they stretch out, did they catastrophically fail? No. Worn at work, hiking, climbing, cycling, and they're still going strong after 15 months of heavy use. Leg pockets are relatively deep, but are slanted rather than jean style, so I tend to use the zippered back pockets for security. The thigh hidden velcro pocket is not that useful for heavier objects as they will bang your quads, but is ok for a light wallet. I'm 6'0" 180# and usually wear a 34. It's a limber 34, so I just use a belt and all fits a comfortably loose with the plumbing (i.e.: these ain't kiwi-huggers). Go do something outside and unless you're planning on swimming the English Channel, these are the shorts for you.

Really great shorts

I bought this pair and a pair from a competitor (we're not supposed to mention other brands here so I won't) and I prefer this pair. The fit is much better and the pockets are much better positioned. I really like the color as well (I bought the blue). I'm usually a size 34 but with the stay at home order my waist got a bit bigger so that 34s in some of my pants fit a bit small. I bought the 34 and the 36 to compare the sizes and the 34 fit totally fine because of the stretch. That's a very useful feature. The fabric has a bit tougher feel than normal cotton, but I assume that means they will be more durable (at least I hope that's right!). I haven't worn them enough to comment on that but so far I'm very happy with them. I got the longer 11" length and the length seems perfect: I'm 6'3" and they fit right above the knee.

Great Climbing Short

This short is awesome! I live in a place that gets hot and humid in the summer and I need a good short that allows for movement and is form fitting. I love how quick the material dries and how well a climbing harness fits over it. My one minor function complaint is that the "front cell" pocket is a little small for my smart phone and case. That being said this is the only short I wear during the summer because of how comfortable and practical it is.

Great shorts with zip pocket travel security

I love my three pair of AP pants and have worn them on many travels including abroad. Needed some new shorts so decided to give these a try. Great fit, style and color selection. I bought two pair, dark storm for dress/travel and rust earth for hiking and camping. I have long legs (34 inch inseam) so I went with the 11 inch length. They were perfect length for me. The zip back pockets provide some added security which other pants lack.
