Comfy material, but tight in the toes
The material feels very comfy, on par with other wool socks and is lightweight. The tabs are easy to pull and also protect the heel from rubbing when wearing running shoes that have a higher heel cup (e.g. my new balances). However, the toes are REALLY tight. It's not an issue of the socks being too short or sized poorly, they're the right size. It's just that in the toe area the sock narrows a lot more than other socks and really constricts your toes, particularly the pinky toe. If you like to splay your toes out while running or doing anything, these are not the socks for you!
Size up
These do not fit true to the size guide. I wear a size 13 and thought that the XL would fit perfect. They are way too tight, too narrow and too tight around the ankle. I wish REI would mark these appropriately so I'm not footing the bill for the return. Bought 5 pair using the guide REI provides and then another $8 (which is absurd) for return shipping. Have bought plenty from Darn Tough (in XL) and these almost seem like they are made incorrectly due to the size difference in what I own and what I received. Or the brand is cutting costs/quality control. Either way, last order of socks from REI and DT.
Good socks but toe box too narrow
This socks feel good and I would definitely buy more however the toe box area is way too small for me. Wish I would have read the reviews before as others seem to have the same problem.
Really tight
As other reviewers pointed out, the toe box is incredibly tight. I'm a size 12 in most shoes and got the XL
The minimalist's sock
I frequently wear ultra thin running/hiking shoes and socks like these are a great go-with. I have several brands and like them all. These are well made, colorful, properly thin. They've held up for a season of use and machine wash/dry cycles and still look and feel new.
2 defective pairs of socks
I've been a fan of Darn Tough socks for many years. I have pairs that are 5 years old that are still in excellent condition. However, quality control has declined recently. I bought 3 pairs of DT No-Show Tab Ultralightweight Socks. One pair had a tear in the sock on day one (I didn't notice until I opened the package). Another pair got a hole in the pinky toe after only a couple of uses. DT has a lifetime guarantee, but you shouldn't have to use that guarantee within weeks of your initial purchase. Disappointing and frustrating.
Great running socks
These socks are very thin which is a plus for me. They seem to wick well and do not hold excess heat. I have wide feet and prefer these thinner socks. Socks with more cushion leads to a more snug fitting shoe which tends to give me blisters. I have run a couple times in these and they are great so far.
Durability and Longevity
Darn Tough Socks are the longest lasting, durable sock I have ever owned and worth the price.
Love These Socks
All Darn Tough socks are great and these are no exception. They feel almost like wearing no sock at all! I have tried them as regular socks and know they hold up, so I will be trying them as liners too because they are so thin. Can't beat the lifetime warranty either, though I have never had a pair needing replaced since I started wearing Darn Tough daily about a decade ago!
Thin and light
These socks are thin, lightweight, no padding or cushion, which is just how I like it (unlike another well-known wool brand whose “no cushion” socks…have cushion built into the toes!) I’m not yet sold on the sales pitch that wool keeps the wearer as cool in the summer as it does warm in the winter. But I like how they feel in the shoe, so I’ll stick with these for a while.
