I wore this product in Ukraine. It is not well suited for serious winters. At temperatures lower than 40 degrees you get cold. I bought the REI Stormhenge jacket. I have yet to be cold wearing the Stormhenge at any time in Ukraine, Switzerland, the mountains of Arizona in winter...
I have owned North face jackets for like two decades, the Thermoball Eco Snow Triclimate jacket feels very comfortable, warm and it’s very well made/construction. But the only issue I have was the way it was packaged, it seems like it was just thrown into the box without any plastic enclosure. Even the tape didn’t properly secure the box, in which I could feel and see the fabric before opening the box? REI has to do a better job in packaging. I was in shock to see that the jacket had no plastic enclosure to protect it from the elements, a cardboard box alone is not sufficient to protect it from the elements. Luckily the jacket was intact and no stains. It’s a beautiful jacket but REI has to do a better job in protecting its merchandise while in transit to the consumer.
Very nice coat. Runs slightly large, which was perfect for me. 5"7", 140#.. It's quite warm with liner. which is easy to remove. For some reason chest pocket on right instead of left, opposite of my previous parka. I wish they would just have two. One other feature that no one seems to have is a secure wallet pocket inside when liner is removed. But, this is still one nice parka and I find it hard to imagine why someone would pay double fo some of the other brands.
Jacket was excellent untl I realized the outer pocket is on the right side (facing left). As I right handed person, it was extremely awkward on a ski lift trying to reach for my cell phone and I could have easily dropped it in the frigid temperatures. Never had a “lefty” jacket before, and never considered that it could be a problem until it was. I guess if your are left—handed, finally a major brand is looking out for your needs and definitely buy this jacket.
The jacket is well-made and flexible in many ways. However, note that the zipper is one-way: zips up from the bottom to top but no way to open from the bottom. Also, no snaps or belt which would let you fasten it loosely. The best you can do is zip open from the to,p but it has to stay fastened at the very bottom (which is rather long). Also, the sleeves seem awfully long for a Medium.
Excellent fit, flattering, many pockets and multi layers can be used without shell
Very warm coat. Purchased this to replace the shell I’ve skied in for the last 20 years and I was blown away by how warm it is. I skied a wet, cold and windy day with nothing but a base layer under this jacket and I was warm all day. Great coat, light weight for how warm it is, moves well when skiing aggressively.
Son and Husband love these especially on sale--inner liner is warm and fairly breathable and great on it's own in cool weather, outer layer provides great wind pro and waterproofness while skiing in wild march weather, dog walks in the cold, and casually. Great pockets, zippers, length of arms, etc.
As a beginner in snowboarding, I didn’t want to spend too much money on an activity I would only do a few times a year, and I found the perfect solution in this jacket, which I can also wear outdoors in daily life. The outer layer is suitable for skiing and snowboarding. The breathability and waterproof levels are not specified in the technical details, but during my 4-day ski trip, I had no issues with staying warm or allowing my body to breathe. The pockets stayed completely dry, and I frequently used the RFID card pocket on the left sleeve and the built-in goggle wipe inside the pocket—both were incredibly useful. I packed the mid-layer into my backpack while skiing, but since the temperature didn’t drop below -5°C and I kept moving, I didn’t really need it. I also enjoy wearing the jacket in everyday life and am very satisfied with it. The only downside I found was that when using the mid-layer, I couldn’t use the elastic snow skirt on the outer layer, which is designed to prevent snow from getting inside.
