Don't leave home without it!
This seat is what I always bring - and I mean always! Not just for camping, where it keeps my bum warm and happy. I use it when I paddle my kayak bare footed trough the Summer, putting it under my heels for support. Kayaking in the winter - hey, I sit on it for warmth. I bring it to picnics, concerts, travels, well anywhere. I have given this seat away as a gift so many times, only to receive the most positive feedback in return. I honestly believe this product will give you a better camping experience! I've used the Z-seat so many times it's become the cheapest of my most valued gear in terms of usage and value. I am a very big Z lover!
Great addition to my system
I purchased the silver reflective version of the Z Seat before a seven day autumn bike trip. It served a couple key purposes for my weight-conscious camping gear: • Seat pad for breaks or in camp; on logs, picnic table benches, or the ground. • Insulation under my feet in my hammock. (My upper body was on a Thermarest Prolite Small, and I slept in a 30°F down mummy bag.) The coldest temps at night were around freezing. It worked great for my needs. I plan to bring this system again in the future - it is light weight, packs conveniently, and adds versatility. The other two riders thought it was a great idea and were jealous.
Had to get a second one
This thing is great. Got one for my self and was so happy with it that I got this second one for my girlfriend and a gift. Very comfy, keeps your butt warm from the cold rocks, or clean from the dirt one the floor. Very tough and doesn't tear on sharp rigid rocks. The Comfort level on the Z seat is enough for my needs. Don't expect an ultra plush memory foam mattress, but it will keep you comfy (more comfy than sitting on a cold wet rock.) It's a sit pad and definitely gets it's job done. Therm-a-Rest, this thing is great. Hope you guys get the rest of your colors in stock I really wanted the yellow one!
Great, but some improvements
I love it. A couple additional options that would be nice. #1 I wish there was an option with less flashy colors. Does that silver color serve any true purpose? I use mine hunting so having the brown on both sides would be nice. #2 I have the problem where when I'm sitting on it in a windy spot and then I stand up for even just a second to readjust, the thing flops around or flys off. I'm planning to rig it up with an elastic strap that goes over the front of my waist to keep it in place, but it would be cool to have it built in, and probably more durable because you could some grommets around the attachment points as I imagine the foam will quickly tear there. Just my thoughts. Great product!
Best piece of overpriced foam ever
Honestly, in a world of overpriced everything, I was happy to pay $$$ for a Z Seat, especially when demand far outweighed supply and I had to wait several weeks before they were available. I was giddy when I finally found one after so long not being able to do so, and now supplies seem to be barren again. This is a testament to how great the Z Seat is: small in dimension and even smaller in weight, this piece of foam travels in my pack whether I’m day hiking or overnighting. And not just for the butt, either—great pad for kneeling while prepping a meal on the camp stove. I even carry it with me when fly fishing off the beaten path. Sure beats a moist river bank or stream side rock to sit on while eating a piece of jerky and a Capri Sun.
Better for your buns
The stars are high up in the sky, shining their dazzling light down upon a crisp night around the comforting fire, only you're about to turn in early after enduring too much of that painful log seat you initially felt so much better about when you first made camp. Sit and groan no longer, with Therm-a-Rest Z Seat under your cheeks! Turn that pointy granite rock into a backwoods LA-Z-Boy, or that regular ground into better ground! Be the envy of your friends, Z Seat by Therm-a-Rest.
Lightweight convenient seat
Easy to strap to the outside of your pack. So lightweight that you won't notice it. I wish I had bought it much sooner. I ended up buying one for each of my family members. My kids love carrying and using these on hikes. Just buy it. Your butt will be dry, happy, and warm every time you stop for a mid-hike break. It's versatile at camp too. Can be used as a doormat in front of your tent, under your pack to keep it out of the mud, or as a fan to stoke the flames of your campfire.
z seat is a hyperlight must for any backpacker
This thing is super light, waterproof, rugged. The added insulation is great whenever I sit and just what I need under my tush in a Hennessee hammock for extra winter insulation. Sometimes I just use it for a working surface, or under my feet/socks when changing clothes. I know it seems a luxury, but I think totally worth it. I believe the silver side does add warmth so stick with yellow or blue. The olive doesn't have this feature
Aw heck yea, love my butt-pad
You really can't go wrong with one of these. Weight is no excuse, and neither is the size if you hang it on the outside of your pack. 'Purist' hikers may look at you funny, but as soon as they sit on one they are always instantly converted over. I originally bought it as a shot in the dark but it ended up being one of my most valuable pieces of gear... I would be horrified if I lost mine so I have a backup just in case. :)
I never hike without it
I've been hiking with one of these Z Seats for years. I live in the Northwest, where the places I want to sit and rest are often damp. But it works great on my Southwest trips, too. I'll even take it to a local park to sit on the grass with it. Love the new cord loop—I stick the folded seat in my pack's side mesh pocket, and clip the cord loop to a pack strap with a little carabiner so it won't fall out.
