Fantastic hiking boot!
I've been wearing Oboz Sawtooth II boots for years, and was quite content, although I knew it would take some time to break in each new pair of boots (and break in my feet to the boots). I also expected to deal with the rubber soles that curved up the lower sides of the boot, and would peel off over time. I had the Gorilla Glue all ready to glue them back in place. But with the new Sawtooth X boots they were comfortable from day 1 -- no break in required!! Also, you can tell from the pictures that they fixed the issues with the soles. They're now a single piece that wraps around the entire boot, with pretty much no chance of peeling off. As a result of those improvements, I was able to hike up a couple nearby peaks with no break-in foot sores, and no signs of boot wear at all -- unbelievable! I am a HUGE fan!

Not the same as previous Sawtooths
I have 3 pairs of Sawtooths before buying this boot. Unfortunately Oboz has made significant changes that, for me, make the boot unwearable. So, if you’ve had Sawtooths before and expect these to be the same you’re likely to be very disappointed. These are going back.

Sawtooth X is a solid choice.

The Sawtooth X is a well made boot. The wide size is not quite wide enough, but I am hoping to stretch them out enough to be comfortable. The insole is thin and does not provide much cushioning, so I am using a different insole. The down side is that the boot now fits tight over my instep. There is good cushioning around the ankle and in the tongue, which is welcome. The heel fits snug enough to hold my foot in place, making it the feature I like the most. The price of the boot makes it a good value, based on the quality of workmanship and materials.

Update to original review.

I am upgrading my rating to 5 stars. The boots have broken-in nicely and are comfortable. One thing I did not notice originally is that the entire inside of the boots have a very nice, smooth liner. This is a big deal for someone with tender, sensitive feet. I noticed one question about the boots was if they provided as much airflow as Moab Ventilators, and I would have to say they do not. But unless that is a very big issue for you, these boots are an excellent choice and value.

finally found you

what I want: - spacious toe box have both good height and width - upper have flexibility so if I bent the shoe, the upper doesn't cut into my big toe - solid outsole and upper to protect me from rocky trails I've tried so many different pairs of hiking boots. Saloma is narrow and has a flimsy upper. Altra have wide toe box but it's too wide and lack stability on forefoot. La sportiva is very hard like a metal boots and toe box is low so every time I bent my shoe the top of toe box cut into my toe. and finally, after half an hour effort with an helpful REI employee, I found my shoe! oboz sawtooth wide. yeah it comes in wide. it's meant to be the moment I stop into the shoe. on my first hike, I only realize I have my shoe on 30mins into the hike. grip is very good too. I bought it for challenging mountain hikes. I like my choice.

An update that should’ve never happened

Oboz dropped the ball on these. Don’t mess with a good thing and change the Sawtooth II. These are stiff and I ended up with a bruised heel after 6 miles on the North Country Trail. I miss the Sawtooth II, which were a dream, right out of the box.

Promising, but too narrow

They seem like very durable boots, but the toe box is too narrow. The ankle was also very stiff, but that might break in nicely if I were to keep them. Unfortunately, I must send them back before they get that chance.
