Merrell  Speed Strike 2 Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots - Women's

Great boots! Broke them in a few times prior to using them for my Canadian Rockies hiking trip. Super comfortable and lightweight with solid support. Would recommend!

These were true to size and seemed like they could be a decent boot, but as soon as I saw the lace hook was plastic, I knew I would be returning them. And the plastic was surprising because the description said metallic hardware. And I also check to make sure the lace hooks are metal, not plastic. Maybe they meant metallic looking?

These boots hiked Machu Picchu within days of me slightly breaking them in and served me well during my three-week trek through South America. Super comfortable from day one and was not sick of wearing them when I returned home. Great purchase.

Comfortable out the box! I loved the MQM mid boots and put over 400 miles on them and was hoping to buy a new pair but they are no longer being made :(. These are similar in weight and construction and almost as comfortable. I’ve tried the Moabs and find them to be a little too heavy and not as comfortable as the synthetic boots. Wore these on a 9 mile hike without doing any break in and had no real issues. I would recommend wearing mid rise socks to protect from some chafing at the boot top.

These shoes are much warmer than I expected. My feet felt hot in a store. I honestly can’t imagine wearing them in summer or during hikes in the mountains — they would be too warm. The outsole is also quite slippery on ice, which was disappointing considering they are marketed as outdoor / winter-friendly shoes. After about a one-hour walk, my feet felt tired, especially because of the high collar. The mid-height design puts pressure around the ankles and becomes uncomfortable over time. Overall, they might work for short walks in cold weather, but they were not a good fit for my needs.

I own many, many pairs of Merrell shoes, and most of them are very comfortable. However, I have never worn anything as comfortable as these. I have problem feet and always had blister issues with hiking boots, but I didn't even think about my feet for an entire day of hiking and walking in the mountains. I just ordered a second pair for backup. The only thing is that I had to order 1/2 size larger because they run small. I usually wear 9.5 M, but the 10 M is perfect. I NEVER thought I'd find hiking boots that I could wear comfortably. These boots are a dream come true!!!!!

Longtime REI shopper and Merrell customer, first time complainer. These boots are awful, and I sincerely question the other reviews. My very first hiking boots were Merrells, and those babies lasted me a decade of intense hiking, including EBC from the Tibetan side. I had since replaced those with a couple other brands and finally came back to Merrell now by buying these. Unfortunately, "they don't make 'em like they used to" rings true here (and it's also why I didn't replace my former pair with another from Merrell a few years ago). I've now done three hikes in them - two local with pretty tame terrain (relatively groomed dirt with some rocks) then a third with more variability (rocks, sand, streams), and wow were they useless; I was slipping and sliding all over the place and barely had grip anywhere. It was horrific and so disappointing. I feel incredibly fortunate to be writing this uninjured. They're moderately comfortable - not a dream but not terrible - and seem to be water resistant, at least, but none of that outweighs the fact that they fail at their mission, which is to be a safe and reliable vehicle for your feet in the wild. Wish I could return them more than anything. (I think I technically can, but I can't bring myself to even though I've only had these for a month.) There's a reason they're discounted...

I bought these because I will be in Germany outside during winter and needed something warm and waterproof. I bought this model specifically because they are vegan friendly, and I don’t buy anything made of leather. I’ve been wearing these all winter and they are the best hiking and walking boot I’ve ever had. They were comfortable from day 1, very warm, even down into the teens, and they seem very waterproof as well. I wholeheartedly recommend them. I’m only going to buy Merrells from now on - I love all my various Merrell shoes.
