Solid Design, Mediocre Quality,

The 24L has great functional design — not too large on a woman's frame, smart organization pockets, and a large quick-access pocket up top. I can fit my sling into the quick-access pocket and downsize my tech pouch from 2L to 1L thanks to the built-in organization. Given how heavily the zipper is advertised across the bag channels, though, it's somewhat a let-down in my experience. It frequently catches on the fabric when I unzip. My own diagnosis is uneven sewing tension that makes the fabric wrinkle, leaving an irregular offset between fabric and zipper tape, and the zipper edge stays wavy even when open. It doesn't look great next to comparable name-brand bags. The shoulder strap has a second issue. A 2" section at the top is unpadded, so instead of padding curving continuously over the shoulder, it stops short and the valley of my shoulder feels pinched. Still usable, just not the level of comfort that Matador advertised. Worth adding: I submitted this same review on Matador's website and even got a review submission confirmation, but my review never appeared publicly. Make of that what you will. Bottom line: This is a solid four-star bag overall, but I'm giving it three stars only — comfort and build quality are non-negotiable for me. It's good that Matador is targeting the $200 tier; I'm just not convinced trading sewing quality for few dollars worth it.
