Mixed feelings
I bought this coat for a trip to Iceland in December and it did not keep me warm. The weight of the outer shell compressed the down fill on the shoulders. And so my shoulders were cold. When I used the puffy coat at home without the outer shell the fill was fluffy and it kept me warmer than having the outer layer on it. Also, like other reviewers have noted the sleeves are too long and I have to roll them back. And because of the way they’re made it’s not possible to have them hemmed. I feel like for how expensive this jacket is it should be 100%. And for me it’s all it’s like an 85%.
Very warm coat
Not sure why the other reviews say it’s not warm, this is the warmest jacket I’ve ever owned. I live in NY and it was 19 degrees the other day and felt like 6 with the windchill, I was super warm my entire night walking around the city. I purchased this coat last winter and I never layer when wearing it. I’m 5’1 115lbs and I got a size small.
Strange Uneven Fill
This looks like a robust parka which will hold up to cold weather, but it is disappointing. I wore it on a 40 degree day and was left cold in the arms. The torso was warm but the arms (strangely) weren’t. Given the price point, I expected so much better. I returned it.
great winter coat for the PNW
I bought this coat last fall to be both warm and waterproof in PNW winters. It has been great -- I walk in the rain and wind and it has kept me dry and warm. Even the hood is just the right size. It does run small - I sized up. Another positive attribute for this puffy coat, it has a trim look . Yes, it is expensive - REI coupon helped alot, and - with Patagonia guarantee -- it will continue to keep me warm and dry for many winters to come.
Not Suitable for Winter
Not suitable for cold weather. I live in Wisconsin and wore this coat outside when it was in the high 20s and felt like I was wearing a windbreaker. Would only recommend for very temperate climates.
Don’t waste your money
This coat is made for tall people. I am 5’ and can’t even zipper this jacket all the way or it’s covering half my face (and not in an intentional way). And the hood is huge - completely out of proportion. The hood on the top layer (the puffy inner layer has no hood - so it’s useless as a winter coat) is so big, in fact, that it covers my face when I try to use it. There are strings that would seem to make it smaller, but I am a busy single parent and don’t have time to take the coat apart to figure out how one is supposed to … wear the hood? That should be easy. It is also VERY heavy. Warm, yes, but also HEAVY. Now, I have to figure out the logistics of returning it. What. A. Waste.
3 season coat
This coat is high quality and really well made, with attention to detail and I expect it to last for years. Sizing is true to size and I would not size up because then the shell alone will be way too big. I think with the right layers this will keep me warm during Alaskan winters. It's not the lightest coat but that's ok, I rather be warm and protected from rain and snow. On a 50% off sale this is an amazing deal and hard to pass.
Worth every penny for lung health
Still the greatest for anyone who is vulnerable to cold, rain, snow, as the hood and pockets allow wearing a hat or cap underneath and a wool scarf can be pulled over your nose and the hood snugged. For a person with lung issues it is a game changer and worth every penny. It is also really waterproof. This is my second one.
Perfect for rainy PNW
I’m kind of shocked this has such low reviews. This jacket has been perfect for the rainy PNW winter. It’s nice to have two jackets in one that fit perfectly together. My sister has been stealing the inner fluffy coat and always tells me when she returns it “this coat is seriously so warm”. She loves the coat so much, she’s going to buy one for herself. I’m 5’11 and 175lbs. I bought the large which fits perfectly. I do prefer a looser fit so I’m going to exchange for an XL.
Not Warm
I bought this coat because of its versatility and because I thought it would be a very warm coat. While I do like how versatile it is being that I can separate the two coats and use it as a raincoat, but this coat is not warm at all. I am always cold when I wear this coat in the winter and I have to now spend more money to buy a coat that I can actually wear when it is cold out.
