One of my new favorite shirts
This shirt really surprised me. I purchased this shirt to prove to somebody that you dont have to spend $130 at LL Lemon to get a nice shirt, and boy was I right! The fit is perfect. The fabric is super lightweight and breathable, but still holds some warmth. I really like the 1-2 inches of fabric below the hood for some reason...and the price is amazing. I can buy them in each color before and spend less than the other guys. Anyhow, highly recommend!
Falling Apart After 5 wears. Terrible.
Terrible. I've had the hoodie for about a week and have worn it 5 times. The side seams are fraying and coming undone near the bottom hem. At $70, this is unforgivable. What a joke. Returned for refund. Save yourself some money and buy another brand, or a cheaper version of the same type of hoodie from another brand.
Very Poorly Made
In theory, this is a great shirt. In practice it's another story. The second day I wore this, it started unraveling. I had just worn it once, on a city walk. So it hasn't exactly been used hard. And in more than one place! It's a real bummer to
The PERFECT paddling shirt
Absolutely love this shirt. I've worn it for days at a time in the Boundary Waters, Outer Banks, and Everglades with little smell, lots of sun protection, durability, the soft, stretchy material is a real treat to wear. No pilling with a lifejacket has occurred. Every time I go on a multi-day canoe or kayaking trip, this is my go-to shirt. If it ever wears out, I will buy anothe r one without a doubt.
Comfortable, good looking but does not hold up
This shirt is crazy stretchy. That’s an awesome feature but I’m finding its elasticity doesn’t rebound for long. Mine is less than 2 months old and it’s gone up at least one size in all directions. It’s now a huge, baggy mess that doesn’t fit me anymore. Just beware this shirt is more gummy than elastic. Mind you, I sleep in this because I’m a backpacker, which definitely puts added strain on the fabric as I roll around, but still. None of the other brands I’ve used have done this. It’s a good looking and comfortable shirt though. If you purchase just beware of this. Maybe go down a size if you are between sizes and store it lying flat so it’s own weight doesn’t elongate it over time.
Nice fabric but the sleeves are too short
I'm a 5'9 woman with a 6' wingspan, so women's sun shirts tend to be too short in the arms. Usually I can just wear men's shirts if I want functional thumb holes, but not this time. I typically wear a women's S/M in Mountain Hardwear and got a S here. It's quite a roomy fit overall, but unfortunately the sleeves are still too short (I can use the thumbholes, but only by stretching the fabric quite a bit). The hood also did not provide any sun protection to the sides of my face, even with my hair tucked away in a braid instead of a ponytail or bun. I love the purple color and the silky fabric, but sadly this will be relegated to shorter days when I don't need top notch sun protection.
Great Hiking Sun Protection
I purchased this for a hiking trip to Phantom Ranch in the Grand Canyon. The sun is pretty brutal there and I decided to wear both long pants and a long sleeve hoodie for the hike, topped off with a wide brimmed hat to minimize sun damage. The Hoodie was very comfortable against my skin and served to protect me from sun burn.
Would buy 10 if I could afford it!
Love this hoodie! The only criticism I have is the women’s colors and construction. I ordered a men’s, which is little big on me. I did this simply based on that stupid draw string and horrible colors offered for the women. When are outdoor companies going to realize that we as women would perhaps like the same style and colors. Regardless, I love the hoodie and just wish it came in x small since it is a mens and I am very small.
Best sunshade I have ever had
I have had other sunshade hoodies from other brands and this is by far my favorite. I am 5'10", 200 lbs and this fits perfectly. The material is very thin and very soft so it is comfortable, light and cool. I have worn it several times in the water and on hikes, and it has performed incredibly. I was worried with the light material that it would get snagged on something and pull, but that has not happened yet. I typically wear it without a layer underneath. Mountain Hardwear makes some of the best gear out there and this is no exception.
Utterly destroyed by a single climb
I purchased this to wear climbing, and took it on a single trip. I wore it for 1 climb on that trip, and as soon as the arm seams touched rock they almost evaporated - started coming apart completely. This wasn't torturous off-width or something, basically just resting my arms on the rock. All my friend's sun hoodies of different brands had no problem (since they didn't expose stitching on the outside like this hoodie). Absolutely awful design decision. This is a perfectly fine sun hoodie if you're not planning to use it for any activities where the stitching might come in contact with anything - I have to imagine it would work just fine for the beach/boating/river/etc, though I did see another review about the seams catching even just backpacking. Would not recommend as a durable product at all.
