This jacket has quickly become one of those pieces I grab when the weather can’t make up its mind. It’s lightweight, comfortable, and provides just enough warmth without making me feel I’m wearing a sleeping bag or preparing for a polar expedition. Great as a mid-layer when it’s really cold, or an outer layer when it’s chilly but not quite “why do I live here?” territory. I love the four pockets, two inside and two outside, the waist clincher, and the hood for snugging things up when it’s needed. Overall, it’s practical, comfortable, and just warm enough without all the bulk. Basically, it shows up, does its job, and doesn’t ask for a participation trophy. My kind of jacket.
The down jacket is thin but very warm It is sized big as noted in the side view photo It tents out a bit on the bottom in the back The hood is nice and big and will keep you extra warm over a hat
This is overall a great jacket. It’s very warm without being too heavy or bulky. Seems to be very well built and at a great price point. I also love the cinch-able waste and large inner pockets. The only real complaint I have about this jacket is how loose the wrists are. I wish they would have been tighter with a better elastic area to hold it tighter. The sleeves may be a little too bulky for me as well but definitely something you could get used to.
Overall, I like this insulted hoodie I found this light-weight puffy-like insulated hoodie perfect for those nippy moments before sunrise and after sunsets. Large is the size I wear. This size large garment fits comfortably over a mid-weight base layer. Sleeves easily reach the 35 inches to my wrists. It doesn't compress in a pack or stuff sack as much as I would like it to. The waist drawstring didn't stay tucked out of the way when drawn tighter.
This is a great insulated hoodie. I am used to long hikes and backpacking, so I'll start with the few cons. 1. It is very heavy compared to other down jackets these days. Its warm, but its a heavy insulation. 2. It is not very water resistant. The water kind of absorbs into the jacket. 3. It doesn't pack down or stuff very well, so if you need to take it off you will probably be carrying it. Now the good parts! REI has been putting elastic around the hoods and it is amazing. It stays around my face when its windy or when I'm moving a lot, but does not fall in front of my eyes. I prefer this elastic over draw strings any day. The cuffs have a similar elastic that does it's job without getting in the way. The internal pockets are great, but kind of unnecessary as I wouldn't take this on a long hike or backpacking trip as I've mentioned before. I think this looks great and was phenomenal for cold evenings and chilly mornings at the campground or short hikes. I usually wear mediums and this medium fit like an in-between a medium and large. Honestly good for a warm layer though.
