Cat approved in short term test

In a short term test, (using the chair at home over the last week), I can say the Mica Basin is great for short periods of time such as having a beer after work or relaxing after doing yard work. However for longer periods of time such as benge watching your favorite show it begins to be less comfortable, I can not quite place why that is. Maybe a bit constricting or too reclined? As for the build quality, the frame is superbly designed and easy to take down and reconstruct. The chair fabric is also excellent quality and leaves nothing to be desired. Both seem far more durable than any camp chair I have previous experience with. The parts easily fit into the storage bag as there is ample room.

Seriously promising

I'm new to Big Agnes, got my feet wet here after reading reviews, finding a deal. Of course I didn't read the instructions, it was fun to figure out setup. Immediately developed respect! I haven't put it to the test out in the field motocamping, but so far I'm impressed, it's light, comfortable, bereft of flimsy plastic parts, and coolest pattern (two different fish, and my version raises awareness and support for a river. To find companies that care and are proactive matter to me. I wait with bated breath for my tent to arrive!!). If it falls apart whilst adventuring, I'll update the review, but I doubt that's happening. Thanks Aggie, MWAH

Best Backpacking Chair!

Out of all the backpacking chairs I have tried over the years, the Mica Basin Camp Chair is my favorite and a definite luxury item when backpacking/thru hiking. In addition, this chair can be used for many applications and at only 2lbs (992g), this is well worth the weight penalty IMHO. It's not the smallest or lightest weight chair for backpacking, but so comfy and stable! Please check out my review on my channel: https://youtu.be/Qpo_ZkxG7KU

Love this chair

Anything beats sitting on the ground at the campsite, but this chair is slightly larger than a nalgene and its not so heavy that I reconsider bringing it. I'm a big guy, 6'4", 230lbs and its solid Super stable, super sturdy. Ive watch other chairs break at camp, this girl is going strong 2 yrs in

All-metal design and higher sear height!

Love our Big Agnes chairs! They have served us well through 5 years of Boy Scouts - ranging from car camping and fishing to extended backpacking treks. Durable all-metal design and sitting 4-6 inches higher is worth carrying the extra ounces!

Big dude approved

I'm a big guy 6'4" 230lbs. This chair is plenty big enough when folded out and surprisingly small packed up.

Great camp chair...will be buying more

As a guide in the BWCAW I spend many hours per day and many days per season in a canoe. After a long day in a canoe it is so comfortable to sit n a chair which is off of the ground and provides back support. This is the second Mica Basin Camp Chair I have purchased. Both myself and my clients find them luxurious. They pack down small, are fairly light weight and are very well constructed. I will likely be purchasing at least 2 more to add to my gear for my clients comfort in camp. No criticisms...Great camp chair!

firm ground only

This is a well designed camp chair that is lightweight & compact. I use it primarily canoe camping. I've used it on two trips so far. It packs nicely and fits perfectly along side my tent in a drybag. I would give it five stars but I have one complaint. It will sink into soft ground very easily. On my first trip, we were camped on a grassy campground and as soon as I sat down, the chair's back legs dropped into the dirt. It happened more times than I would've liked in the Adirondacks. I can't imagine how it wouldn't go right into sand. My suggestion for the folks at BA is to have four plastic squares that snap onto the bottom of the chair's legs, perhaps 3" squares that forms a platform. It might add a couple of ounces. I weigh 190 lbs. so I'm not a skinny kid, but nor am I obese.

New favorite chair!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] #sweepstakes I was in Jax browsing camp chairs as I was considering getting a new one, since a secondary one I had ripped. I happened to sit in this chair and it was pretty comfortable, since then I wanted one! I choose this over the traditional camp chairs I'd been use to for the fact it folds up pretty small. It was used on a recent camp trip and it is so simple to assemble, I can sit back and sit up comfortably. I love it doesn't take up lots of room and is lightweight. Great chair investment!

comfy, small packing

Surprised at how comfortable the chair is. Packs down small, easy to set up. Sturdiest small chair I've ever used. The feet will sink into soil so I recommend either finding a solid surface or something to place under the back legs. It fits in a water bottle bag on my motorcycle so it always available for a quick-draw lounge when the opportunity arises. Slightly heavier than I would pack backpacking but perfect of you need a chair to support a stout person.
