Merrell  Moab 3 Ready Zip Hiking Shoes - Men's

While any purveyor may publish technical diagrams and declare well made; anecdotal information is needed here. Instead of waiting for that “sweet spot” betwixt the break in period and support collapse, merrell offers structural footbed comfort from first donning through upper shoe life!

Love these shoes. Replaced Ariats as my everyday horse barn shoes two years ago when the second pair in a row didn't last two months. I have worn several styles of Moab’s now for barn time and my rose colored ones for going to lunch with the girls. My only complaint is the laces always come untied. I loved the idea of a solid fit like a tie though. When I replace this pair, I plan to buy another pair of these. The fit is perfect, the zipper is smooth, and the comfort level for all day wear is amazing. I can’t wait until they come in more colors and the waterproof variety.

Very happy with this shoe. The zipper works great and is sturdy. The shoe stays to form and comfortable. Easy to put on and off. I’d like another pair in another color…

I'm definitely a Merrell fanboy. I walk A LOT and I go through the Vibram sole about every 6 months but they are so comfortable, I've just kept buying them. I'm on my 3rd or 4th pair of MQM 3 mids and since they've been discontinued, I've taken to finding them online. I'm going to keep my most recent pair and just resole them a few times a year until the uppers wear out. I needed something more like a shoe and I picked up a pair of MOAB 3 zips. I was not disappointed! They are incredibly comfortable and when the sole wears out, I'll either resole or buy a new pair.

The side zip on these is an absolute game-changer. Being able to zip in and out in seconds makes these some of the easiest, most convenient shoes to put on and take off. However, Merrell made a baffling design choice: the laces are entirely non-functional. The tips are molded directly into the shoe, meaning you cannot tighten or loosen them out of the box. The Fix: I cut the molded tips off so the laces could actually do their job. Now that they are fully functional, the shoes are perfect. I can finally customize the fit, dial in the tension, and adjust them tighter or looser depending on what I'm doing—which is, after all, the entire point of having laces. The Verdict: The side zip is a fantastic addition for speed and convenience, but a zipper should complement laces, not replace their purpose. Add a real lace setup out of the box, and these are unbeatable.

I really liked the zipper idea and the shoes…but I did not like the fact you can’t tighten them up at all! They are just what they are and since they were too loose on the top of my foot I had to send them back. Hopefully they will make the next version where you can get them as tight as you need them then just use the zipper for easy on/off.

The shoes are very comfortable as I knew they would be. I have several Merrell shoes and I really like them. I prefer lace-up and didn't realize these have zipper on the side. It actually makes it easier to put on and take off, but I probably would have ordered a different pair if I had looked more closely.

The shoe fit is good and the zipper function is nice for easy on/off of feet. The con is the sole. It’s very hard and not good for hikes or long walks. I prefer a little bit of cushion in the sole and these lack that. And with a few walks they have not broken in.
