I am 6' 2" / 230 lbs and went with the XL based on trying on the Atom jacket in store. The shoulders and chest feel great, but the mid section is quite loose and baggy, clearly to accommodate bulkier individuals. The arms are about 3" past the wrists on each side, while the torso goes almost down to the inseam of my pants, or about 3" longer than I would expect. In short, the Atom just fits better for an athletic build. I am considering returning but the breathability and the range of temperatures I find it comfortable is impressive. I want this for backcountry skiing, so I am hoping this will dump heat on cold days while skinning and skiing.
Receiving a new jacket with a torn sleeve lining—how could you send out such a damaged item? The risk of buying from you is way too high, and this isn’t even a cheap jacket. What a poor shipping quality control. As the seller, do you not have any responsibility for this issue?
This jacket has carried me through fall, winter, and spring without missing a beat. It works beautifully on its own for mild days and layers perfectly under a shell when the cold really sets in. On chilly hikes I just throw on my Beta shell over it and it keeps me warm even in really cold weather. It is breathable, comfortable, and moves with you effortlessly. I have taken it on hikes and worn it in all kinds of conditions and it has never let me down. There is nothing bad to say about this hoodie. If you want something that works across seasons and feels great to wear, you have to get it.
Receiving a new jacket with a torn sleeve lining—how could you dare to send out such a damaged item?
This jacket has quickly become my favorite because it's incredibly comfortable, it fits perfectly and it's as breathable as advertised. I typically use the jacket for long, strenuous hikes up and down steep hills in a wide range of chilly, relatively cold but not frigid temperatures. This jacket puts a smile on my face every time I wear it. The size large fits great.
I gave it to him for Christmas and he loves the lightweight, warm feel of it. The length is a little longer than typical men's jackets. He said this feature came in handy when glissading steeper terrain - which is the most favorite thing about winter mountain hiking! Based on the outer material, I was nervous that he would rip it during his first hike, but it held up great despite brushing tree branches.
REI employees sent me this specially picked defective jacket. I spent $350.00 on this jacket that was supposed to be brand new. The jacket came in the mail without product tags or a upc, with a defective zipper, two separate visible stains, and 2 tiny microscopic holes in the jacket with thread or insulation coming out. I am not returning the jacket seeing as that it is a sold out color and I don’t have the time. I am low income and experience illegal employment discrimination so it is a luxury to buy this jacket. The new Arc’teryx Proton Hoody is a good jacket though and the color is great. The proton hoody is warmer than the atom hoody with insulated side panels and it is more breathable. The atom hoody has fleece side panels that aren’t insulated but it has a more durable and wind resistant outer shell that is less breathable. When windy and not very cold an atom hoody may be a better choice but in general I pick the proton hoody all other times.
The Proton hoody provides a light weight, synthetic, breathable, somewhat expensive, layer for high output activities. I typically wear an XL in other Acteryx outerwear like soft shells and a down jacket, and if anthing they are a bit tight. Unlike other Arcteryx products, the Proton hoody in XL is actually a bit larger on me. I'm 65, 6'1", 215 lbs.
So far no issues a month into wearing it. Have taken it hiking and when layered it stays pretty warm. By itself it keeps you warm enough and regulates my body temp well. My torso is longer and I wore a size large.
It's my favorite brand, and this model didn't fit well.
