A very good looking technical piece
I was convinced I got the wrong jacket after reading all the reviews. The consensus is that this hoody is too loose and the sleeves is too baggy, but from my experience, it is quite similar to the Kyanite Lightweight, and Fortrez. It's quite slim. I am usually a medium and sometimes a large and this medium fit quite tight. See the pictures. I measure 41.5-32-40. It's about as warm as the original Delta LT (not very warm). A quite durable face fabric, with a tight hood, and a chest pocket that can fit a phone. The original description of this jacket claims it has a DWR coating, but I am pretty sure that was a mistake because they have since removed it. It's quite a technical piece that's designed to be low profile and breathable during high exertion. Very low weight, so it is not great for warmth during low-intensity activity.
Transitional season piece
I've been testing various iterations of the Delta for 5 years, and am thrilled to say this is the best yet. The lightweight, wicking fleece, combined with the right fit and taper, makes this a great spring and fall low-output piece for the mountains, a travel friendly hoody, and a mid-output winter piece when layered appropriately. I've used this piece on a cold, windy spring day, moving uphill in the alpine, as well as ice and rock climbing from 0-50 degrees F. When layered well, the Delta can be the piece you never remove and always bring with you, provided you aren't sprinting around or running uphill a lot. For a higher output outing, I would lean towards something a bit thinner/more packable, like the Cormac Heavyweight, but this fleece nails the bill for most people at most temps and outputs. Plus, the hood is perfectly sized for under a helmet!
the expedition midlayer you wear every day
I now own a this Delta Hoody, a Proton LT, an Atom LT, and the Alpha LT. Each of these comes into play on a cold ski day. The delta makes for the perfect second layer, as my heart rate increases on the skin track I can put layer after layer in my pack until the Delta which is easy to keep on, as it sheds heat so well. But when worn under another layer, it adds an outsized amount of insulation. Couldn't be happier with this thin fleece as a piece of the ski puzzle, and frankly as the first thing I put on in the morning at my house, as well. I will wear this thing out!
Overall winner
There aren’t too many pieces on the market that work so seamlessly from work to play. The Delta Hoodie is one. I find it incredibly functional and easy to wear. An additional layer when up tracking, belaying on cool days, or running in cooler temps as an extra layer. It also works for me in causal settings and I find it so comfy. The hood is super useful and fits over climbing helmets. I had an issue with the zipper, but Arc’teryx reBird program took care of it and it’s back in action. They only let you give 5 stars, I’d give 10 if I could. Only had it a couple years, but the material seems durable and I’ll wear this until it’s threadbare. Such a good piece.
My Go To for When I’m Chill but Not Cold
This newer version with the hex style interior is just perfect. It gives me warmth without making me overheat or sweat. I use it a lot indoors when there is a light chill or outside when it is cool. Sometimes I layer it under my Beta jacket for those medium temperature days and it works perfectly. It is comfortable, breathable, and easy to wear in almost any setting. The hood sits nicely and the fit feels just right. This is one of those pieces you reach for without thinking because you know it will be perfect every time.
Great Jacket, sizing is amiss these days
The design and use of the jacket is great. Super lightweight and awesome pockets and materials. However the new version fits like a sloppy jacket. It’s definitely not a trim fit. I’m 5’11 and 150 lbs and a medium should be the ticket. However the torso fits like a large and the hem length is quite long and bunches up even when standing. Compared to other slim fitting jackets and even the Delta Pullover, this fits much more loose. Sizing down to a small leaves the sleeves too short and the torso too tight. Seems like a lot of brands these days are making products bigger than they need to be for whatever reason. Makes it harder to recommend and use ill-fitting clothing.
So light that not sure what to do with it.
A mid-layer that needs another mid-layer to feel comfortable. In breezy 62°F in southern California, with a base layer, it feels cold. It is so light that it does not make a difference to have it on, and at this price not worth it. I would also like with this price at least to have a hem band or a ribbing, so that the bottom of the jacket won't be loose if you are not really fit, buy one size bigger
Good fleece, even with revised sizing
Overall I like this fleece, though the new fit and lack of a couple features keeps me from rating it 5 stars. Pros: It's lightweight, warm, breathable and has 3 pockets (one chest, two hand). It definitely has less "loft" than something like a proton lightweight but seems more effective than the older grid fleece styles. Cons: The fit is a bit baggier than prior delta pieces, especially in the mid section and the elastic waistline is less effective unless I size down. No thumb loops / holes. I am 5'11", 180 lbs, 32 inch waist and 41 in chest, athletic build. Large is my normal go to size for arcteryx products, and I ordered a large in this fleece and it fits OKAY but wish they kept the older sizing which fit me like a glove.
Excellent active midlayer
Fantastic active midlayer for high output activities. Just enough warmth the take the chill off but very breathable so you don't overheat. If there's a cold wind, pair with a breathable wind shell and you have the perfect combination for UK hiking. Tested in the Lake District winter and found it perfect for the majority of hikes 0-10° C. I've seen some poor reviews and they clearly don't understand what the product is for. Only drawback for me is I've found the zip to be fiddly and it rides up when wearing a rucksack. Would definitely recommend
Good jacket, poor sleeve disign
I recently got one of the newer delta Jackets. Overall the material is great but I'm not a fan of the change to the sleeves. I had the delta hybrid, prior delta jacket and the sleeves were great, they had just the right amount of material and coverage with the thumb loops. the newer version has about 2-3 cm too long sleeves and does not have a tapered fit so there is a lot of excess and baggy material around the wrist which is pretty irritating. Hopefully they readjust the sleeves as the delta hybrid sleeves fit perfect!
