Absorbs sweat and great sun protection
I've been wearing one of these for three years and it's great! Excellent sun protection for your head and neck. I was training with a backpack in 104 degrees and the hat was pulling so much sweet from my forehead it was dripping off the front of the brim. The brim will absorb swear and dissipate it keeping it from running down your face. My sunglasses never get sweat on them while wearing the hat. It's very functional and does it's job perfectly!
Great everyday hat
This ended up my everyday work/hike hat. Adjustable headband makes for a snug fit, stiff brim edge allows reshaping. Fonts into pockets and packs easily. Has great breathable vents and some water resistance.
Big shade
Got this shade hat after being tired of the brim on my prior hat brand always flapping in breezy weather and basically being useless on windy days. This brim is very wide and stiff enough to withstand light to moderate winds without loosing shape. Elastic cinch strap around crown of hat helps keep it place. Loads of shade with plenty covering back of neck. Breathability is great with air slits in top on sides, front, and back. Inside is mesh with loose nylon exterior covering over mesh interior. Sweat band on interior is a little loose, but it's not a big deal. Very good for outdoors use. I've hiked with it several times now.
Sombriolet sun hat logo
I bought another OR sombriolet hat for water fitness. It's not the same hat, because the new hat's logo now stands out more than the hat itself. I liked the subtle logo better.. now people just notice the logo. I've enclosed pics of both... please don't be like Nike and all the others who just want their products to advertise! It's better if people have to ask, "oh, who makes that hat?" I won't buy another one if the logo is big & bold.
Not the best hat, no
Had this hat for two years. That generation hat had a wire for the XL size. Didn’t hold up well, became very curved (picture extravagant Indiana Jones fedora but on a dad bod). Also, ventilation openings cannot accommodate Southern climates. Reasonable cover for light rain in autumn weather though. As with any nylon/poly cloth, stay away from flying embers.
Great heat buster
Great sun hat for the Arizona heat. I do a lot of work outside (we have a small ranch), and the Sombriolet is extremely comfortable and lightweight. Does a good job of deterring the gnats when I'm in the garden and out in the corrals. And when I'm out reading or doing some crafty thing out by the pool, this provides the perfect shade without having to perch under an umbrella. I originally order a medium, based on my western hats, but it was a tad too snug, so I returned and got the large. The hat has an adjustable band cord so I'm able to tighten or loosen as needed. Love it! A great alternative to my western straw hats. I'm glad I purchased it.
Pacific Crest Trail Thru-Hike with OR
I love OR Gear and I purchased as much OR gear for my 5 month thru-hike of the PCT. Heres how this gear held up! Sun Protection: Fantastic! A super wide brim, that is designed to cover most without being massive. Very breathable and should be the standard hat for hiking 700 miles through the California desert. Cons: Even though its wide, the hat still could use more neck protection. Columbia has a hat that has a built in neck protector that works brilliantly, just like the OR sun runner hat. If OR came up with a neck protection with a wide brim hat like this it would be the best outdoor hat on the market! I would still highly recommend this hat.
Game changer!
The sombriolet sun had in one of the best work wear purchases I have made. I work on and next to the water in SW Florida ALL DAY with no shade. Compaired to any other sun have worn the sumbriolet out performs by miles. The top of my head stays cool. The wind wont blow it off as easy with the adjustable elastic band. Speaking of hats blowing, it floats! I made the mistake of ordering a blue one so it was hard to keep an eye on it drifting away... next one will be a lighter color. I have owned this hat for a year and it has held up. Most year will not last long in my environment. I didn't expect it but I get a ton of compliments as Well!
Stylish, functional, and breathable
Pros: A lot of sun hats I've tried on end up looking goofy, and this was the only one I've seen that is big enough to keep the sun from beating down on you without looking weird. * The strap keeps it as snug to your head as you want and the material is really breathable. * It holds its shape after being stuffed into a pack. * Seems durable enough, but I haven't really pushed it yet. Cons: * I haven't tested it in the rain, but I imagine it'd soak through pretty quickly. I don't think it's what it's designed for though. * It's not magic. It helps keep you cool when the sun is beating down on you, but if it's hot out (>85F) you'll be uncomfortable. It's no umbrella.

Gift
I gave this as a gift to my neighbors, one for the husband and one for the wife. They really liked the hats. The hat I got for the husband was extra large; I guessed the size. He's 6 feet and a big man. The hat was too large, but he used the draw string to tighten it, but it still looked too big on him. I offered to return it, but he said it was fine and he'd wear it. He didn't. He gifted the hat to his grandson to fish in, and his 7-year-old grandson was delighted with it, even though it was too big for him. The wife said she loves her hat and wears it fishing. I gave her a medium, and it fit her perfectly.
