Awesome shovel!
I have an Alpha 2S for my yard and a Stealth for my truck. These are great for moving snow or anything soft like dirt. Using them for something like wood chips is a lot tougher due to the wide vs spade edge, but the right tools for the right job!
Happy with our 2 Original Alpha Shovels
Got one then another one they work so well and then collapse to storage. We're in an area often dealing with blizzard force wind packed snow drifts, many times so dense vehicles can drive over the drift without collapsing. These work well attacking this type of snow and of course the soft stuff too. Considered the Stealth model but the Alpha easily handles plenty large enough bites of snow, and the teeth are very nice aiding to cut in to a drift or cleanup off a driveway, they are not designed to bang down on chipping ice---only "amateurs"(lol) would subject a shovel to that abuse, better heavier tools to use on ice, try some salt first...
Excellent Shovel
The Alpha 4 is a great winter tool. It came just in time for the Buffalo Winter Vortex Storm of 2022. The shovel is very sturdy, and strong. It was invaluable when it was time to start digging out from over 6 Feet of hard-pack snow. It cut through the hard pack easily, and the ice-chopping ability made the difference. I let my neighbors try out the shovel while we any my two boys were digging them out, and everyone was impressed with how light and durable the shovel was. I sent everyone links to your website to purchase one. I told them it was worth the investment, and they all agreed. I highly recommend the Alpha 4. It's the best shovel I have ever used.
Stout and surprisingly light
I wasn't sure and bought on sale. Wow both shovels look amazing (one of the powder coatings chipped during shipping, no worries)! The alpha has been abused for two weeks in the Wasatch mountains and ZERO problems. It doesn't ice up or weigh much, I can't wait to build some kickers with these!
Awesome Shovel!
The Alpha Shovel is a great tool that is well put together and feels solid! After owning multiple shovel that have broken on me I decided to take the plunge and purchase my last shovel. I was a little scepticle at first about the quality but when I received it all doubt was removed. The build is solid and everything is well put together, for the strength of the materials used the shovel is still very light, I like it soo much I purchased a Stealth for my wife's car and she loves the fact that it is very compact but will still deliver the utility of a full size shovel when needed.
Right tool for the Job
That is what my Father always tells me. I haven't gotten to use it for snow yet but it has neen very useful on my friends farm with chores. 2nd thing it folds up so neatly and compact. It is in my car trunk ready for New England snow when it arrives. Why because I have had 2 Plastic Shovels "Borrowed"from neighbors on the front porch. They stay their but bu the end of the season they are missing. Heirloom quality Shovel. It's a second so handle is 2 colors. I love it. And no one is getting to use this one except me!!! Excellent Product and would Highly Recommend.
Not just for snow...
I received this shovel as a gift for Christmas last year and I was as as excited as Ralphie getting his BB gun. I literally went right outside to try it. Being in the Buffalo, NY area we see our share or snow. We got an early cold snap/snow this fall. All the trees lost their leaves inside of a week, and then it snowed. I ised my Aplha to move all the heavy, wet, snow filled leaves and it handled it with zero complaints. Being a taller guy, my back loves the extra long handle. I no longer have to bend down to shovel. Best shovel I have ever had!
Quality A+ Size Needs Work
I love DMOS shovels and have several. Personally I think this one misses the mark a little. I get a lot of snow and use 2 shovels 95% of the time: A pusher and a lifter. This is a lifting type shovel but the standard width of most lifters is 20. At 15 the Alpha is just too narrow to make good time. Where it does rule is steps, tight areas, and as a scraper. If you only clear walks/steps it's a great option with the collapsing aspect for storage but it's too small to clear driveways IMO. A version 2 with 20 width would be welcome.
Most versatile shovel I own
I thought I was a little nuts to spend this much money on a shovel, but having gone through so many shovels in the past 20 years living in Maine, I was curious if this one would live up to its claims and possibly be the last shovel I ever buy. So far, I'm enjoying having the ability to adjust the shovel handle length to size. This comes in handy in tight situations, to reach under vehicles, or to just 'scoop' a longer swath of snow at one time. I say 'scoop' because that's exactly what it does. The sides prevent snow from spilling out allowing for fewer passes to clear an area (you don't have to go back and clean the leftover strips). Being able to collapse and remove the handle also makes it really easy to transport or keep stashed in a vehicle. The shovel is much lighter than I was expecting, which is one of the reasons I wanted it. I have no issues with fatigue when using this shovel like I had with my heavy steel scrapers (which are covered in rust). The fact that this shovel won't rust is also a plus. I've used it to chop away at some ice and to clear walkways, having it catch on the uneven surfaces. I was not gentle as I wanted to really test the durability. So far, I haven't been able to put a dent in the edge, which makes me very happy. It even scrapes better than my scrapers. Aside from all the good things, there are a few minor cons that I want to mention as well: First off, as would be expected with aluminum, the snow sticks to the shovel. This was easily fixed with some teflon spray (I use Dupont's snow and ice repellent). Second, the paint came off the edge and bottom of the shovel upon the first use. I was expecting this and that's why I ordered a gray one, but if you order any other color, don't expect the paint to stay pristine if using it on asphalt or concrete pavers. Last but not least, and the main reason why my rating is only 4 stars, the handle is "wobbly", for lack of a better term. This is due to the nature of using extension tubes and the spring loaded locking mechanisms. There is play in each joint which is felt with every shoveling motion. It's not a deal breaker though since the handle is still very strong and I don't get a feeling like it will break. It's just something to get used to if you're accustomed to a solid one piece handle. A suggestion to improve this would be to maybe look at photography tripod manufacturers, like Gitzo, to see how they're able to use extensions but keep it feeling like one solid piece and build something similar. To close this out, I know many people think this shovel is too small, and I was afraid it would be as well. However, when I used it for the first time, I noticed it moved more snow than my regular sized shovel due to the sides allowing it to scoop more snow. I've included a picture that shows it next to two other shovels for size comparison. Although it's large enough for my current needs, I would love to see larger versions become available. There have been a few big snow storms since I received it and I didn't find myself reaching for my other shovels or scrapers at all. I'm very happy with it so far.
Worth the investment
I have an arsenal of shovels. The Alpha 3 can take plenty of abuse that a plastic one can't. The paint is coming off the bottom. I am not OCD so it doesn't bother me. I am a firm believer in buying quality products despite their costing more. I am glad that I bought this. I live at 6600' and we get a lot of snow. It is especially good to use to bang at roof ice/snow overhangs. I shovel the roof still with a plastic shover though. I think the Alpha 3 could hurt the rivets on our metal roof.
