Great Improvement over the last model
I bought these after having used the Sawtooth X B-dry. These shoes are definitely an upgrade. These shoes are comfortable out of the box, but I felt even better after a few miles break-in. After all, all shoes need some break-in period. Why are these an improvement from the Sawtooth X B dry? Well, the Vibram sole makes a huge difference, at least for me. I don't recall having worn shoes that had anything but a Vibram sole. The X B dry were my first such pair of shoes. The pro waterproof model just feels better. It feels less stiff when walking even though the shoe is definitely not soft. The design of the shoe is more traditional, and the waterproofing (Gortex) feels better and definitely less hot. I live in a hot place and the Sawtooth X B-Dry felt too warm. As for the fit, I have long (size 11) narrow feet with a high arch. This means that I have trouble finding shoes that are comfortable. These Sawtooth X-Pro are narrow in the heel, so the heel is secure. The front part of the shoe is also perfect. I always look for narrow shoes. I do not know if people with wider feet would feel comfortable in these shoes, but mine feel great. It could be that the front part of my feet have become slightly wider over time. But the shoes are low volume shoes so my feet don't float. I have only tested them on pavement which is the worse place where to walk. The Sawtooth X B-Dry gave me some pains under my feet, always, and it felt bad after I came back. Those new shoes don't, but I attribute this to the better Vibram sole. I know they will be fine on trails. However, I use my La Sportiva Spire GTX for trails because they have a very aggressive sole on slippery terrain. I will, however, try the Sawtooth X-Pro. I am sure they will be fine too. But it appears that La Sportiva who made the best shoes for my type of feet, no longer does. The Spire GTX have become too wide and lose their shape after a while. I think that the Oboz Sawtooth X Pro waterproof are going to replace my Spire GTX even though I have worn La Sportiva all my life!.
