Smartwool  Active Lined 3" Shorts - Women's

For years I only wore running skirts and then I found these shorts. I love them so much that I have purchased them in every color/pattern. The vent in the back helps to keep me cool on those really hot days. I love the zipper pocket, center back and the top seem pocket in the front. I get compliments no matter which pair I am wearing. I am 5'5 and 120 lbs. I could have gone with the size S but I like them a little roomy and these are PERFECT in every way. They also dry really quickly after a creek soak! I have worn them for short runs up to 100K and have not once thought I needed something else. Please don't change the design!!

I have a much older version of these shorts that I LOVE and was excited to buy the updated ones. I do really like the new ones, however, the fit is 100% different. I went up one size from my previous pair (which still fit), but the new waistband has almost no stretch so while these fit once they're on, they are really difficult to get on. If you have a butt/hips, it could be worth sizing up. Overall, I love the materials and construction outside of the lack of waistband stretch. Colorways were also not my favorite, but there's always black! I ended up with the floral print bc it was on sale, and it is still cute.

These shorts are great for running/hiking! The material is so smooth and soft. I love the ventilation along the seam in the back. The length was perfect. My one complaint is that the lining is a bit large. The waist fit a bit loose but I was able to adjust that with the tie on the inside. However, the inner merino wool layer was loose along the edges. I am between XS and S. I usually go up when I am between sizes, but in this case I should have gone down to the XS. For reference I am 5'2 120. I love the material so much, I would definitely buy this product again! #SmartwoolLove

I LOVED these shorts, but it seems that Smartwool has updated the materials this year and made them much worse in the process. They were formerly durable, flattering, and the liner was made of wool in significant percentage. The current version of the liner is almost entirely polyester (now 15% wool to 56% on my old pairs. . . ). The back vents gape open unevenly, and worse, the liner is pale grey, giving anyone behind you the impression that your undies are showing through the vents. I've do not have this problem with other pairs in this size. Consistency between colors seems poorer as well. I had ordered multiple pairs, but I'll be sending these straight back. Highly disappointed and will not be repurchasing, Smartwool!

I am 5'6"" and 120lbs and bought a small because my measurements match what the size chart indicated and these shorts are so large I have to cinch the drawstring until they're awkwardly wrinkly all around the waistband (and gap at the front). I thought that would be okay and they might shrink a little in the dryer, but it turns out they fall down when I'm running because the drawstring is elastic and they did not shrink at all in the dryer. Really not impressed. What's the point of a size chart if it doesn't accurately represent your products?

Okay so I had two pairs of these shorts that i LOVED that ive had awhile. they are so comfortable, breathable, just amazing so i thought id get a few more pair. there are some changes to this design that i dont love. i held them up to my old pair. the waist on these is about an inch smaller and the big thing i dont like is they removed the mesh around the hem in addition to them being an inch or two shorter than they were before. the mesh around t hem added a little bit of length to them. to be fair im fairly modest but i wont be able to wear the ones i just got out of the house, and i had no problem wearing my other out of the house. they are just too short. material doesnt seem as quality as my other pairs either. i much prefer the old design.

I've used these for some home workouts so far. The outer short and liner are really soft and feel good on. The fit of the waist was strange for me, I had to draw the cord out a lot to get it snug enough where it wasn't falling down, which then created a muffin situation. The thigh area, by contrast, felt a bit on the snug side. The short legs rode up with use which was annoying, but they shook free easier than some other shorts I've tried. My thighs are on the thicker side (~25"" circumference), so this might not be an issue for other people. I didn't have any problems with the vents showing skin like another reviewer, and I think it'll be a nice feature for warmer weather use. They seem like they'll hold up well, they didn't shrink or lose shape with washing/drying. #SmartwoolLove

Hmmm. . . not sure about this one. The entire short is proportioned correctly to an XS, but the waist does not give at all. Not like all other shorts of all other brands. But yet, the entire short is big, and stretches, and gives. Not so for the waist. You almost have to bump up to a bigger size, but then the rest of the short would likely be floppy, the way that it's cut. The design team failed on this one IMO. Not quite there. Close, but not there. I'm 5'3"" and bought the XS. I had to ""shimmy"" the short on due to the unforgiving waist, not because of the rest of the short. Once on, the size was right, but waist was TIGHT and I have a small waist: 24/25. Shocking they made the waist like this. Waist needs to be totally redone. It needs to give, stretch, and not cut into the waist.

Love these shorts! I've used Smartwool base layers and socks for a very long time and loved them. Found these shorts after completing a Smartwool challenge on Strava. I'd been looking for new running shorts and this style fit the bill. Couldn't be happier with them. I love the fit and the Smartwool liner is so comfortable. No weird lines or elastic rubbing the wrong areas. I use them for running, hiking and gym workouts.

I was between rating it between 2-3 stars and reasoned 2. The shorts liner and the shorts inseam meet in such an awkward way that there's a gap and sagging effect when they are on (I. e. crotch looks lower than it really should be) which creates bunching when running. The sizing is also odd as well, seems like the waistband is large but fits pretty snug everywhere else. I sent mine back
