I've run in Topos for a few years now and my previous pair lasted 400+ miles with the soles still in great shape. These Specter 2s, purchased from REI in February 2026, had the outsoles completely ripped up within 180 miles of normal road running. That's not wear and tear, that's a defective shoe. Worse, when I brought them back to my local REI, the store refused the return, called it "wear," and told me to take it up with Topo directly even though I bought them from REI. So if these fail on you early, know that you may be on your own. I can't recommend this shoe, and I'd think twice about how the satisfaction guarantee actually works for footwear.
The back is severely protruding and the entire bottom portion looks, feels, and sounds like Styrofoam. I returned these. No way a chunk wouldn't have come right off running in these once.
I owned the specter but prefer the Specter 2. In fact, after a couple runs in the shoe I ordered a second pair. I did go up a half size from what I wear in Brooks.
Bought these for my wife in her regular size but they were too small. Also the exaggerated heel is more noticeable in person than online pics led me to believe. Long story short, she ended up getting the phantom 4 a half size larger than usual and that worked great
I love Topos and tried a new style. Unfortunately, these shots were way too soft; immediate knee issues arose when running.
The strangest looking shoe because of a marked sole extension of the heel. It gave me concerns about how I would negotiate steps. The shoe also runs small.
I have no idea what happened to these shoes. The soul of the shoe jutted out behind where my heel actually landed in the shoe. Threw my balance off. I had to return them as I couldn’t risk falling. Very disappointing.
My favorite! Topo makes the best running sneaker for me.
Most comfortable shoes I have tried.
