5 stars AFTER I did a bunch of cutting & removin'
I bought this on kickstarter, at first I did not like it and thought it was too heavy and over engineered. I then cut out the floppy mag cover, + cut out the opposite mag fabric on the front panel. (Also who keeps a laptop in a roller bag and not a personal item/backpack?) -> So I cut out 1 side + excess foam for the front laptop pocket and now made it a lighter single panel pocket with more room. I then removed the heavy pointless hinges. also the clip for the roll down pocket kept coming undone and doesn't allow for a tight roll. so I removed that and just used an old velcro cable tie - works perfect. All in all I removed more than 0.5lb of useless stuff, and now the bag is WAY more functional and holds even more, and weighs even less. I love it 10/10 would recommend
PD is the GOAT
I am an industrial designer myself and I appreciate all the great observations and clever ideas that went into designing this product. The lifetime warranty combined with the fantastic quality of PD products makes me happy, knowing I will have this item forever - like, okay roller bag is covered now! An absolut recommendation!
Looks premium, dont protect laptop
The Peak Design suitcase looks great, but the laptop compartment provides basically zero real protection. After a 13-hour flight, my laptop screen suffered mechanical damage — a crack that went through the outer casing. The laptop was placed exactly where it’s supposed to be: inside Peak Design’s “protective” laptop compartment, in carry-on, in the overhead bin. There was nothing else in that pocket -- just the laptop. It was in perfect condition before the flight. So under normal flight vibration and handling, the suitcase didn’t absorb the stress the laptop did. The result: a cracked screen and a ruined start to the trip. What’s especially frustrating is that I actually love the suitcase otherwise. Conceptually it’s excellent, and it’s genuinely comfortable to use. But now I’m left wondering whether I can safely travel with tech in it at all because the divider between the laptop and the main compartment feels like thin fabric, not a protective wall. During travel it absorbs nothing and transfers the load straight into the device. Beautiful design, great usability - but if the laptop compartment can’t protect a laptop in a basic real-world flight scenario, that’s a serious failure.
Roller Pro for business travel
I am a big fan of Peak Design products and always pack my carry-on bag with their Packing Cubes and Tech Pouch. The only issue I faced was finding a suitable carry-on for transporting my business suit, a couple of dress shirts, and one or two ties. I often had to switch to a larger suitcase to pack them neatly. Then, I discovered Peak Design's Roller Pro. This suitcase features multiple cords and loops, making it incredibly versatile. By attaching a small loop of string to the center loop inside the case, I can neatly tuck a thin garment bag inside. I use the travel hanger connected to this loop to ensure the garment bag doesn’t shift while in motion. Now, it makes for a perfect carry-on for my 2- to 3-night business trips, allowing me to avoid the hassle at the check-in counter and baggage claim.
Traveler’s Dream & Incredible Sony Fx3 Workstation
This carryon plus the XL camera cube insert are the new home for my Sony Fx3, and I LOVE IT. Makes doing all of my most important gear in carry-on luggage easy, and setting up on shoot location is as easy as popping the top and grabbing gear out of the compartments. I’m able to store my external monitor (espresso) in the laptop sleeve, and have my big laptop in my backpack, making it super easy to create a mobile editing/processing station anywhere. And it rolls like a dream, super easy to maneuver. Handle feels more secure than my wife’s nice carry-on hardshell. Sometimes when you put it up above you have to shimmy it a little so the wheels lay flat, but that’s a minuscule gripe on what is fundamentally an excellent roller. I’ve take it on ~5 trips now and love it. I travel professionally for my job, so I depend on great travel gear.
Worked well the first couple of trips
One trip was a quick three day jaunt in which I also packed my camera cube and DSLR. The second trip was eight days from West to East and the roller pro did really well with its travel backpack companion. I was able to pack all the clothes and two pairs of shoes — in both bags. One of my shirt packing cubes was in the backpack. I kept my toiletries in the admin panel, which my wife was quick to point out is “easy for boys.” Note that the bag required expansion but that’s fine for domestic. It is a solid piece of construction and it really does race through airports. Also kept my MacBook Air in the RP which was a nice relief. They pair up exquisitely, especially in the same color.
I wish it was bigger and had a larger expansion
I bought the luggage on the Kickstarter program. The space inside is a bit small for using as just luggage. For a quick overnight maybe.
Brilliant, thoughtful roller
Received this a couple weeks prior to 2 week trip to the US. Loved how the clamshell design really did make it easy to access everything inside, could be done while on one seat in an airplane. The front access was very convenient for holding passports, boarding passes, power bank and iPads. It makes grabbing everything easy from security check. The wheels were very smooth and hopefully there will be a newer version that allows you to lock them. The 360 handles make it easy to grab out of overhead compartments whichever angle you shoved it in. Shame the passthrough of my Tom Bihn Synik 22 didn't easily go through but that is not PD's fault regarding compatibility.
Amazing Carry On
I had my doubts when I saw it. I am happy to say I was pleasantly surprised. Every single aspect of the carry on fulfilled kickstarter expectations. Every nook and cranny has a purpose and I love the way its designed. There is nothing I would change, and I love how convenient every pocket, hook, and opening is for everything I consider taking with me on trips. Every aspect of the carry on feels well made and sturdy.
Scratch proof. Buttery smooth rollers.
I was apprehensive to pay so much for a carry on bag, but here are some pros and cons, after testing the bag for a few months. Pros - i cannot stress enough how smooth and easy it is to roll. I’ve owned a lot of bags and this one is on a different level. - the fabric exterior is scratch resistant. It seems to be made of similar material the other bags and pouches like their tech bag. - so so many compartments. The best one is definitely the laptop slot. Super accessible. Very convenient. Cons - no built in lock. And the loops that are there for an external lock are made of fabric. This means it’s pointless to lock it because anyone can cut through the fabric very easily. This is what lost the review 1 star. - extremely pricy. Even with the early bird discount. The only thing that finally made me decide to buy was their lifetime warranty. If this bag can last me 1-2 decades I’d say it’s money well spent.
