Black Diamond  Strataline Stretch Shell - Men's

The fit and quality feels premium. The material is not too loud, and slightly stretchy. I have not tested it in a torrential downpour, but the waterproofing is great in a regular rain storm so far. Purchased a medium, and it is definitely a "fitted" or "athletic" cut, which I prefer. Sleeve length is on the longer end, which I personally appreciate as well. I originally purchased an Arcteryx Beta SL, but ended up returning that due the the lack of flexibility, relatively loud sound, and obviously the cost. This jacket feels more in line with an active rain jacket, light weight, good breathability, some flexibility, and a solid price. Overall very happy with it so far with the purchase. Just wish they had a color similar to the Void grey on the Beta.

The waterproofing is very good, solid beading. Ultra lightweight material, I wish there was a little more room inside the jacket, didn’t want to size up because the arms would be too long. I’m 178cm 172lbs, very muscular lean build and the medium is slightly tight at the top, probably couldn’t wear it with a hoodie, large would be too oversized.

Very nice shell, but be forewarned the zipper is flipped like a female jacket/left hand zipper. It’s super irritating to zip and the only coat I own like this. I contacting black diamond who said it was supposed to be like this, but then couldn’t tell me why. I think it’s probably a factory mistake for the entire male lineup of this shell and nobody will admit it.

Material and construction seem too notch, but be forewarned the main zipper is mounted on the left like most female jackets. So unless you’re zipper ambidextrous (I’m not), it’s actually a struggle to zip. I’ll called BD who said the entire Strataline men’s shell line-up showed up from the factory this way but it’s not listed on their website.
