I’m bummed that Leki is phasing out their FX TA line of poles so I’m getting another set now. After thousands and thousands and thousands of miles these are my faves. (1) The cork grips are very comfortable to me: the slight forward angle reduces wrist pressure, the shape fits my hand naturally, the cork is excellent on hot days, and the top of the grip allows a palm hold when descending. (2) There’s essentially no weight difference between aluminum and carbon poles, but alu generally will bend before breaking unlike carbon which will fail catastrophically, especially in cold. Since I snowshoes and hike off-trail I want a pole that can handle cold alpine weather, get banged up when scrambling, manage side load forces, and not leave me without a way to pitch my shelter. (3) Collapsed size is excellent for travel. (4) Leki’s warranty is also second to none.
