Another Awesome Pair of Shoes from Adidas

These shoes are dope! Look great in-person; much more comfortable than previous guide tennie's IMO. The color is more of light tan/yellow-ish but that is something more to be aware of and not an issue at all. Adidas is my go-to for all my shoes!

For me, the Best of the Reat

Great hiking, scrambling, climbing shoe. Comfortable with sticky Stealth rubber. For general wear and hiking, street shoe size works well for me. If you are mainly using for scrambling and climbing with limited trail hiking/approach, I would size down a half size. I've had a lot of other brand approach shoes, but for fit, comfort and performance I always come back to the 5.10 Guide Tennie.

A Great Do Anything Shoe

I've never had the first version(s) of the Guide Tennie, so I can't tell you how this shoe compares to to that older shoe. The construction of this shoe seems durable enough to last several seasons, if not more. The rubber rand on the side of the shoe is high enough that it protects that side from abrasion and scuffing. Glue job on that seems very well done so I highly doubt any delamination will occur between the leather and rubber. The lace holes used to cinch the shoe up have either metal or plastic guards near the top to help them from deforming or ripping, but none are present at the toe area. This is ok to me bcuz those bottom eyelettes don't see much cinching anyways. The laces are "flimsy" and thin, and I have a tough time grabbing them when tying them up. I will trade them out for parachute cord. The Ortholite insole is terrible and I've already replaced mine with a rigid Powerstep insole with a higher arch. The rubber compound of the sole does not feel as tacky as the rubber on the rand. I believe it is a slightly harder material, but hiking and climbing in them for the last two weeks has proven that they are sticky enough for climbing up 5.6 - 5.7 climbs with ease. My only problem with shoe is the fit. I generally wear a men's size10.5 in New Balance, Hoka and Altras, and a size 11 in Adidas, Vans and Jordans. I own two pairs of the Guide Tennie bcuz the first one (size 11) left me with a full size of space in the tow area and it felt terrible climbing on vertical terrain. The 2nd pair is a sz 10 and this is the shoe I use for climbing. The shoe is stable and doesn't slide up when climbing vertical walls up to 5.7 at my local climbing gym or outside. The heel cup is deep and when the shoe is cinched up, provides a tight glove like fit. So... Overall I gave this shoe review a 5 bcuz it does what I want it to do. Get me to the base of climbs with sure footed agility, climb up walls up to the 5.7 grade and it is surprisingly comfortable (w/ different insoles) on the hard concrete floors of the Warehouse where I work for 10 hrs or more. If you can, try it on in-store before purchasing bcuz that sizing issue is annoying. I wear the larger during my work days and smaller shoe when climbing. I hope this review helps you make the right choice. Would i purchase again? Heck yeah!
