Wore rhese boots for about 5-8 miles a day in arches, canyonlands and capital reef national parks over 6 days. Very good grip on rock and traction on loose trails. Very solid boot from top to bottom. Minimal break in time. Highly recommend
This review is actually of the prior model, but the sole is identical in the current model. The sole developed a focal delamination and an opening after less than 100 miles. I did not do anything unusual and never hiked in snow or excessively wet conditions very disappointing fortunately REI took them back. Kudos to them.
I own a pair of Salomon’s for about 10 years now. They are my favorite day hiking boot. I’ve been looking to replace them as the souls are splitting. No complaints, just lots of miles. REI didn’t have what I was looking for until now! There was a minimal break in period and they are the most comfortable boots I have! They provide protection, support and are lightweight. They are high enough to prevent rocks, grasses and twigs from getting in your boots. I just hiked 8 miles with them and no discomfort to speak of. Thanks Salomon and REI.
I’m a longtime Salomon Guy, and been using my Quest 4 GTX’s for over 6 seasons now - time for the upgrade! The new color is killer, and I ordered online in my usual US size 12. Package came, super excited…and the boot is too big. Not ‘I can fix this with a thicker sock’ just a bit too big, too big, full stop. I wear size 12 amongst the other Salomon platforms - Speedcross, Thundercross, Pulsar - so kinda surprised. Headed to brick-
I had three pairs of the quest 4. They were the best boots I've ever had. I was excited when salomon was coming out with these. I broke them in all day every day for two weeks. I went for a short hike in them today. These are the absolute worst boots I've ever had. I could feel every stone, pebble, twig, and grain of dirt under my feet. There is no cushion whatsoever. Also, they are what I'd describe as "floppy." There is no torsional or lateral stability. It was like hiking in flip flops. Really really poor. They are going back ASAP!
I have duck feet and these boots are perfectly comfortable. To compare, I had a pair of Danner wide boots. The Salomon Quest 5 are just as comfortable for my feet. Love ‘em for all the other reasons as well.
I am really happy with boots. Salomon were my ‘go to’ hiking boot for years until they put a plate of solid plastic up the side of the boot which I found very painful. Glad to see that has now gone. Good grip and comfortable from the first trip. The only negative so far is the laces. They are far too long and I prefer them a bit thicker.
I bough these a couple of months ago to break in before doing the 5 day W Trek in Patagonia. Trekking in water, Buolders, lose rocks and dirt tracks the were great. Very comfortable and waterproof as advertised. Flexible lacing links to adjust to foot contours and the ortho in sole was very welcome on 25k a day hikes.
Great ankle support and comfort on long hikes with a large pack. Great traction and grip. P.S. I have used these for years before writing this review. They are heavier but if support is what you are looking for, look no further.
Bought these boots a month ago. Very robust and seem well made. They do take some breaking in to allow them to shape your foot, so purchase well before any expedition or long treks.
