Black Diamond  Solution Guide Harness - Men's

Sweet harness! Materials are solid, adjusters move how you want them to, and the belay loop is a great step-up from normal. Only issue is the sizing, it fits about 1-2 inches tighter in the waist than my other size medium BD harnesses, one of them being a momentum. Unfortunately I do not see a size & fit chart on the product page. I’ll be exchanging this one for the next size up👍 Height: 5’9” Weight: 170lbs Waist: 33”

Comparing to the original solution guide, most features have taken a step back. Material quality feels cheap, seamless belay loop is small, 5th gear loop is too tight to clip easily, and the harness feels heavier. I’m not a huge fan of the adjustable leg loops as they aren’t acrisply yhat easy to adjust and I am still trying to get them to sit well. I don’t think ice features are necessary on a harness this heavy and bulky. Gear loops are minorly larger but have a new shape that seems helpful. I really just miss the material of the previous gen. Still comfy enough to climb in but am breaking it in.

My favorite all around harness I've used yet. Tackled sport climbing with ease and comfort, and gear intensive ice climbing no problem. I forsee this being my daily driver for all outdoor climbing!

The plastic moulding of the gear loops continue into the padding around the waist (~1/2inch), which creates an extreme hot spot right on my bone (iliac crest). This makes it incredibly uncomfortable to sit in. The BD momentum doesn't have this problem, since the plastic moulding is strictly on the outside of the padding, and only the internal soft webbing of the gear loops are stitched inside the waist padding. The 5th gear loop is very difficult to clip and unclip when there's weight on it from other stuff (like if you bring water or your hiking shoes on a multipitch). The leg loops are too big, even when fully tightened down. If the harness wasn't uncomfortable, it would be 4 stars. I wore a medium in both this new solution guide and BD momentum, with ~1inch of webbing left when tightened down.

Looks like a great harness and a welcome addition to the portfolio for trad and ice climbers. Previously had a momentum harness and I’m happy with the oversized gear loops and wider leg loop padding. Can easily fit a full single rack of 7-8 cams on a single loop without crowding. Jury’s out on the 5th gear loop but happy to have it. Slight concern about hot spots where the gear loops terminate inside the waist band but need mileage on it to see if it is an issue. Would recommend.

Much smaller than any other medium harness I’ve ever worn. Medium is tight for 32” waist.

I've been climbing for about 16 years and have almost exclusively used BD harnesses during that time. It is as if BD had read my mind because I had been looking into other brands since I've transitioned away from sport climbing and found myself doing more trad and multipitch climbing. The expanded gear loops have been a HUGELY positive addition and I can comfortably carry a double rack and have some room leftover. The harness itself is very comfortable and any users of the base solution harness will find it very similar in fit and feel. I also appreciate the durability of the Solution Guide. While I haven't put it through the wringer yet, the quality of the build is similar to previous harnesses I've used from BD and I expect it to take a beating like a champ. Overall, highly recommend this harness if you're moving into the trad world and into multipitch climbing in general.

Just posting an image to show the size small has the rear gear loops almost touching so the 5th loop would be piled over everything. Always hard to manage a size small with balance of gear storage, but it's been done. Harness seems great, but I just didn't like the proportions of the small. Would be great if companies showed actual photos of each size as it really does change how you interact with the harness, but that will never happen.

Harness has a ton of storage space, huge leg loops for comfort, solid strapping mech, and it is comfy as heck. I don’t know what I would do without this harness. Coming from a BD momentum I was always happy with that one, but always ended up having less space than I wanted for my gear. This one is a huge step up. That combined with the bigger leg loops and all-day comfort let me to love this harness.

I bought this harness and tried it once. It seems like a good harness except it was a bit small after I tried it on a climb. Unfortunately, unlike most retailers Black Diamond will not accept a return on equipment that has been used. If on use if you find that it isn't really what you want, you're out of luck. I recommend you buy elsewhere.
