Good sun protection at the cost of breathability
Based on the Mtn. Hardwear description, I was expecting the fabric to be lighter and more breathable than it is but some of that is sacrificed for UPF protection. Quality is solid, zipper allows extra ventilation, fabric has a smooth, comfortable, lycra-like feel but does cling when soaked with sweat. Not my first choice for active sports (mtn bike, trail running) when the weather is over 75 degrees but a good choice for less extreme temps, less extreme activities or if you need max UPF protection and are willing to sacrifice some breathability.
Great Product
6’1” guy with long arms and moderate/lean build, got this in a medium and this fits perfectly. It has a bit more athletic cut to the shape compared to other shirts or hoodies so the stomach doesn’t flare out and flap around, stays close which is nice for movement. Arm length fits great and the best designed thumb holes I’ve run across, doesn’t feel like the rest of the sleeve end gets in the way of using your hands. Hood seems to stay put and doesn’t blow off, and doesn’t block too much peripheral view. Was out in direct sun for 6 hours two days in a row and had no sunscreen underneath and got no burn whatsoever. Love it
Great hoodie with zipper!
Love this hoodie! I've tried on about 10 and always felt like the hoods, the way they wrap around, form a kind of turtle neck and hold in heat and annoy me. So the first brilliant thing about this hoodie is the zipper. It both releases heat (when open) and makes it more comfortable. The fabric was also great and light. Note that it seems the fabrics may range ever so slightly between colors. I got the prismatic blue and it seemed a bit lighter and less plasticy than the solid green -- so could be worth going to the store to feel them before buying. Just wore mine for basically 6 days straight on the middle fork of the Salmon River (Idaho) and it was the perfect garb. Also, it fits to size (medium for my 5'10" average build)
My First Hoodie
I don't care for the color choices and I wish the hoodie itself would stay on my head when I'm not wearing a cap, which is usually the case. Especially in the wind. It would not stay on my head, which I found annoying. That being said, it felt comfortable (it was a second layer) and I like the ultralight-ness of the fabric. The zipper is nice for heat management. But, as I said, it's my first hoodie and I'm just discovering the hoodie world, so take that into consideration.
Awesome lightweight gear for your hike.
This is typical Mountain Hardware gear! Awesome fit, fabric is great as always. I have other pullover styles like this but without the 1/4 zipper as it’s even better. This is perfect for summer hiking and light enough to not worry about the ounces. Like I have with other mountain hardware, I’ll likely buy this same thing in different colors.
My first hiking hoodie
Can’t compare to others but it is very comfortable in a wide range of temperatures. I hiked in UT in 100 deg and back home in VT where it becomes a mosquito hoodie! In the woods at 85 deg and humid keeping the black flies from eating me. The hoodie is uber comfortable and when you move you feel air movement. Last and least, it does look okay
Light and perfect for workout and weekend wear
Soft, comfortable and perfect fit. Material is comfortable and breathable; hoody is just right after a sweaty workout; fit is good without being too tight or loose. For me, it’s more than a workout wear - weekend living wear. Nothing beats Crater Lake line of tops! I hope the amazing Crater Lake fabric and fit won’t change.
From Dawn til Dusk!
This lightweight hoody will work perfectly for me. I intend to be walking 600+ miles and need something light that I can wear solo when I am hot or, even slide into bed and cover my head to keep out the light and noise. Easy to pack in my backpack and pull out anytime!
Comfort Plus
Softest, most comfortable sun protection shirt on the market. Moves and performs like an extra layer of skin.
