I'm on the fence
The Pants feel comfortable. It has a "regular fit" around the hips and thigh area. When I unbuttoned pants after trying on, one of the buttons broke. Planning to exchange or return for refund.
Poor Customer Service/Warranty
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I ordered these pants at full price through TNF website. Pants appeared as advertised. After three uses, the insulated lining split along the entire length of the crotch. Multiple phone calls, photos, & emails resulted in my having to submit a warranty claim and return the item (at my expense & insurance). I sent the pants priority mail and have heard nothing back from TNF. I have used TNF products continuously for 50+ skiing days/year for over 15 years and have been generally satisfied. No longer -- never TNF again!!
South Face
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] QUALITY: Have the 2020 version & these(2021). Steep decile in quality. The've skimped on material, even though they've doctor'd up the formal description(for marketing).Nowhere near as warm as their predecessor. Poor, in lower temp with wind gust. The pockets(side & lower front) can barely fit a hand now but fancy metal zippers were important. LOOK: Bellbottom look is a FAIL. Logo color same as pants,(lame) color contrast, adorns. COLOR: ordered RED (much more like last year's Flare Orange) COMFORT: They're a tad tight in upper hip & flair out immensely at the feet. OVERALL: These FAIL, when compared to itself(predecessor). The comfort level is "meh" at best. North Face, now on a long list if companies lowering quality to maximize profits.
All Around Winter Mountain Trousers
These are my all around mountain trousers living at 9200 feet in Summit County Colorado. I wear them alone or with the Winter Pro Tight as a base layer for skiing, winter ice and mixed climbing, snow shoveling, dog walking and general all around wear. Great stretch and fit the thigh pockets are excellent for ski pass and cell phone, hip pockets for Porsche key fob and folding knife. I bought an orange pair then an Olive Drab set I liked them so much. Probably get a black set next!

Good in a pinch
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Decent pants for the price. The fit around the waist is great as well as the length. The venting on the inner leg works, but it could use more venting up into the crotch. These are insulated, so more venting seems necessary to me. Certainly not a pair of pants to wear if you like to layer to stay warm. There are definitely some cons for these pants though. If you're like me (a snowboarder that likes powder) then you use your gaiters a lot. These gaiters are vented (the top where they attach to the pant leg is a wider mesh) and do not have a hook to attach to your laces/boa, so they are constantly riding up your boot. Also, they do not have a back pocket, so everything has to go in your front pockets, two of which ride very close to the knee. If not for the lack of gaiter hooks and not having a back pocket, this would have been 5 stars.
Review: The North Face Chakal Pant - Men's
The North Face Chakal Pant is an excellent choice for winter sports, combining comfort, functionality, and style. The tailored fit with adjustable waist tabs ensures comfort and freedom of movement. Its insulation provides warmth without bulk, while the fabric offers superior waterproofing and wind resistance. Durable and versatile, these pants are perfect for skiing, snowboarding, or any cold-weather adventure. Highly recommended!
Great fit and very comfortable
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Used for skiing, and was surprised by how thin the pants were but at the same time they felt very durable. I bought the blue version and I really like the color. There are enough pockets to store the essentials and the inner thigh zippers helped regulate the temp well. I am on the thinner side so the pants were a bit loose, but there are tightening straps AND belt loopholes so I can slap on a belt and hit the slopes.
Great Pants, Smaller Pockets.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These are great fitting pants and I like the all black. My only gripe is that the hip pockets are just deep enough for IPhone 8+ but the thigh pockets aren't. As a hiker I guess I wanted deeper pockets and not just for my phone. I carry other items and collect stuff. Anyhow, that's my pre hike review. I love that anything NF is guaranteed for life. I've utilized that warranty 3-4 times on vests/coats, etc.
Proper insulation without bulky feeling...
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Nice not bulky insulation pants. I've only worn uninsulated pants with running leggings but sometime when I was riding on East Coast mountains in January I wanted some insulation on my pants. These pair have proper not bulky at all insulation and feel nice. I have to wear them during riding but based on the first impression I think they will do the job.
