Great fit and lightweight material
Received free product
I really like the relaxed fit of this barrel-leg. I'm a bit short and stocky at 5' /160lb so the wide leg works great for ease of movement. I got a Large and wear them pretty high on my waist for a full-length look (where taller folks would probably get a cropped look). I have other thin REI pants without a belt that I can slip on and off; while the built-in belt on these requires unbuckeling for removal, the belt gives my waist a bit of shape. I've worn these on a casual stroll through the Farmer's market and while building a fence and stuffing tools in the pockets and utility loop - they were perfect for both. The thin material and mesh pockets are likely perfect for packing and a quick wash and dry. I'll likely look at purchasing in an additional color!

Like the silhouette, wish a lil better quality
If I could rate them a 3.5, that's really the rating I'd like to give. While I like the fit and barrel leg construction, the material itself is very thin and has stayed wrinkled even after hanging it up for a few days, which doesn't bode well for travel purposes. The REI cardboard paper thing on the waist was sewn in left a little damage when removing the threads. I've already had a little trouble with releasing the included belt buckle - I have to press it hard to release. For such a costly pant, I would hope that REI would offer comparable quality. I'll still be wearing them (especially in summer), but just wanted to give a heads-up re: quality and expense.

Pear shaped friendly pants for warm days

My measurements are 150 cm and 59–62 kg, with thicker thighs and butt, I wear size 6 lululemon align pants and size 8 hotty hot and speed up shorts, and size M in Patagonia baggies shorts 5". I’ve bought the M petite and regular, L petite and regular. I know it sounds crazy, but I found that the different lengths and sizes give me slightly different looks. I marked them in the photos, hope this helps you. Starting with the sizing, the M fits me pretty well and still leaving some room to move. But I found the butt area can look a tiny teeny bit snug from certain angles, for example, if we’re hiking uphill or walking up the stairs and you’re right behind me, you can easily see the outline of my non seamless underwear. That’s the main reason I wanted to size up. Other than that, it's perfect and I like the silhouette of them. The L is huge in the waist as you can see in the photo. I have to tighten the belt quite a bit for them to sit high waisted, but they do provide extra room in the hips and butt area and have a baggier looser leg silhouette. Now let’s talk about the lengths. The petite length hits right at my ankles. I like how they look with less bulky and open toes shoes like Birkenstocks Arizona or flip flops. They look awkward to me with my Merrell Moab hiking shoes, and worse with hiking boots, the proportions just don’t look right on me. So I only wear the petite ones as day to day casual pants instead of actual hiking pants. If you’re on the shorter side like me (5 ft or under), the regular length will likely touch the ground when you’re barefoot. They work perfectly with hiking boots and my Autry sneakers (not the super thin soled ones), since the extra few inches help cover the shoe tongues. Also, when you sit down, they don’t expose half your calves like the petite ones do. I’d say they can pass as work pants if your office dress code isn’t too strict. They are currently my favorite pants. I’ve worn them on several of my recent hikes. They are soft light, and dry quickly. I wish REI would make more colors, such as beige black brown or even patterns.

So Comfortable

Received free product

Pros: So comfortable!!! These are lightweight, loose, and soft. They're good for walking, bending, moving, or just hanging around the house. They're high-rise enough that I can sit or bend without worry and yet they're not constricting in any way. I think these would be great for a long road trip. The pockets are surprisingly deep, even the zippered one. Cons: The belt button is tiny and difficult to undo, especially if your nails aren't super short. I'm considering taking the belt off the pants because I dislike it so much.

Size down from your usual trailmade size

My measurements are 5’4” - 29” waist - 37” hips - 135 pounds and I got a size xs reg length. In the trailmade pull on pants and the trailmade pull on shorts I am a small. I tried both the small and the xs and liked the fit of the xs better. Small felt too big! I do wish that the length was a little longer because my ankles won’t be covered when I sit, but if I ordered the tall size they would be way too long so I’ll just have to wear long socks with these.

Comfortable and functional but not flattering

Received free product

These are good workhorse pants. They have very deep pockets, a zippered side pocket, and an adjustable belt. They also have remarkably good ventilation- you can actually feel the air flowing through the pant legs! But, unless you have a thin physique, these pants are not flattering. If you usually order pants in a “long” size, definitely do that if available for these. I didn’t have a “long” option and they are essentially capri-length. That said, these pants are great for spending time outdoors in warm weather!

Great fabric, poor cut

Received free product

I really wanted to like these pants. The fabric is very light weight and dries very quickly, the mesh pockets conitnue to keep air flowing on warm walks, and I really like the built in belt. However i just did not like the cut of the pants and i could never really be comfortable in them. The length was either too long or too short and with the cut of thr leg I felt it either needed more taper or less to avoid getting caught on things. They just never fit quite right.

great lightweight pant

Received free product

Great lightweight hiking pants. The waistband design easily accommodates a variety of waste sizes and shapes with a combination of elastic and adjustable clip (as well as a button). The fit is such that movement is unrestricted and comfortable allowing me to squat down or stretch my legs wide across varying terrain. I’m on the shorter side at about 5’2” and found the length quite suitable. Sizing runs a little big; if you are between sizes I suggest sizing down but I generally appreciate the roominess. And plenty of pockets for carrying a phone or snack, etc.

Hasn't gotten warm enough

Received free product

I really wanted to put these to the test in warm weather, but I'm running up against the deadline to submit my review. They seem light weight enough but a bit frumpy which is strange as the waist runs small. Not sure if it is the inflexible stitching that makes it look wider than it needs to be. It does have really nice deep pockets which is great.

Modern silhouette

Sharing these photos to help others gauge the proportions of these pants. For reference, I am 5'9", 125 lbs, with a 28" waist and a 32/33-inch inseam. I'm wearing a size small with a regular inseam in these pics. They hit a bit short on my frame. I really like the barrel look, but they don't quite provide the coverage I want for hiking, so I already ordered the small / tall version. The fabric is a lightweight, swishy material and nice that it's water-repellent. The small fits my frame well; a medium would definitely have been too large. I also love the stretchy waistband. It is very comfortable and offers enough give for "hike bloat." If you have a longer inseam like I do, I recommend going with the tall sizing for better functional use.
