These shoes have been excellent for hiking. I purchased these as a lighter alternative to my hiking boots. I have used them on volcano hikes (dry/rocky/rough terrain), and waterfall hikes (wet/slippery/muddy) and they perform well in both. The sole is water resistant and removable. The shoes clean up well after getting very dirty. They are so comfortable and there was no “wear-in” time. I tried these on in store against similar Salomon and Altra shoes and picked these because of the wide toe box and comfortable fit.
I needed an alternative for my regular hiking boots for a trip to Morocco and Madeira in the heat of summer. A hiking friend suggested these trail runners because of the wide toe box and narrow heel, and I followed up at REI. The specialist at REI showed me these and alternates, let me try them all, and when I selected these from the options she let me know it was her favorite brand and confirmed that the shoes do run a bit large so I was comfortable with the smaller size that felt right on my feet. Took them for a hike yesterday in temperatures similar to those expected on my vacation and was very satisfied.
I must have 10 pairs of TOPO shoes. They are very comfortable and reliable. When I put these on they were ok but after wearing them 3 times the sides started to come apart. Disappointing. Luckily I can still return them.
I had these rushed to me on my trip to Sedona and I’m so glad I did. I hiked cathedral rock the next day which is very steep and involves quite a bit of rock scrambling and i felt so confident and comfortable doing it in these shoes. Thanks!
Great walking shoe. I wore my last pair down so am replacing them and hope to put miles on these ones too.
Topos are not for everyone, they are generally good for people who have a narrow heels and shallow feet, like support mid foot, but are also looking for the roomy toe box without compromising foot movement during downhill trail running or hiking, if you're like me, these shoes have checked all the boxed so far. I have had my feet scanned so I'm more in tune with what to get now, thankfully after almost a year of fumbling. I used to get corns/blisters on the outside of my big toe, I don't have that issue anymore. 20 miles into these and I have zero complaints. I just hope they last!
I really want to love these trail running shoes, but unfortunately they are not ideal for my “difficult” feet. Toe box is nice and roomy, but shoe lacks coverage and support around the ankle area for me. It doesn’t offer much support and the ankle feels like it lifts a bit with each step, almost like I’m wearing a slide. No blisters or sores so far, so I’m keeping them.
So far so good. I have a problem with shoes rubbing on the bottom of my ankle bone. So far these Topo shoes are comfortable and not causing that issue.
I finally found the low hiker with wide toe box that actually accomodates my bunions and bunionettes! These hikers are amazing... oh so comfortable, roomy and supportive. I also have the Topo ankle height hikers and I love those too. FYI, the low trail runners run a bit big, I usually wear a size 11 now, but I probably should have sized down to a 10 1/2. I was anxious to get them, so I went ahead and bought them as REI didn't have a 10 1/2 in stock in our store. Still great but a little too big.
If you need more room for your toes, this is your shoe. Not as cushy as the shoes I’d been wearing, but the trade off a vibram sole should make them last longer. Comfortable even walking on large gravel paths.
