Great grip for hiking/trail running
These shoes have been excellent for hiking. I purchased these as a lighter alternative to my hiking boots. I have used them on volcano hikes (dry/rocky/rough terrain), and waterfall hikes (wet/slippery/muddy) and they perform well in both. The sole is water resistant and removable. The shoes clean up well after getting very dirty. They are so comfortable and there was no “wear-in” time. I tried these on in store against similar Salomon and Altra shoes and picked these because of the wide toe box and comfortable fit.
Very poor quality
I must have 10 pairs of TOPO shoes. They are very comfortable and reliable. When I put these on they were ok but after wearing them 3 times the sides started to come apart. Disappointing. Luckily I can still return them.
Lightweight, wide toe box and narrow heel perfect
I needed an alternative for my regular hiking boots for a trip to Morocco and Madeira in the heat of summer. A hiking friend suggested these trail runners because of the wide toe box and narrow heel, and I followed up at REI. The specialist at REI showed me these and alternates, let me try them all, and when I selected these from the options she let me know it was her favorite brand and confirmed that the shoes do run a bit large so I was comfortable with the smaller size that felt right on my feet. Took them for a hike yesterday in temperatures similar to those expected on my vacation and was very satisfied.
Topo's Arent For Everyone - Get Fitted
Topos are not for everyone, they are generally good for people who have a narrow heels and shallow feet, like support mid foot, but are also looking for the roomy toe box without compromising foot movement during downhill trail running or hiking, if you're like me, these shoes have checked all the boxed so far. I have had my feet scanned so I'm more in tune with what to get now, thankfully after almost a year of fumbling. I used to get corns/blisters on the outside of my big toe, I don't have that issue anymore. 20 miles into these and I have zero complaints. I just hope they last!
Too Roomy Around Ankle
I really want to love these trail running shoes, but unfortunately they are not ideal for my “difficult” feet. Toe box is nice and roomy, but shoe lacks coverage and support around the ankle area for me. It doesn’t offer much support and the ankle feels like it lifts a bit with each step, almost like I’m wearing a slide. No blisters or sores so far, so I’m keeping them.
Seems good
So far so good. I have a problem with shoes rubbing on the bottom of my ankle bone. So far these Topo shoes are comfortable and not causing that issue.
Version 5 is narrow in toes
After having purchased several pairs of version 3 for my wide feet, I finally needed a new pair of Tarraventure. I purchased the current version (5) and they are terrible. Narrow in the toes and causing extreme pain by my 5th toes. Also doesnt hold feet secure and my toes are rubbing on front of shoes with downhill trecks.
Finally enough toe room!
I finally found the low hiker with wide toe box that actually accomodates my bunions and bunionettes! These hikers are amazing... oh so comfortable, roomy and supportive. I also have the Topo ankle height hikers and I love those too. FYI, the low trail runners run a bit big, I usually wear a size 11 now, but I probably should have sized down to a 10 1/2. I was anxious to get them, so I went ahead and bought them as REI didn't have a 10 1/2 in stock in our store. Still great but a little too big.
Good looking comfortable shoe
If you need more room for your toes, this is your shoe. Not as cushy as the shoes I’d been wearing, but the trade off a vibram sole should make them last longer. Comfortable even walking on large gravel paths.
My New Favorite Trail Runner!
I am really impressed by how comfortable and grippy these shoes are on mountain trails. I was concerned that they were not zero heel drop nor minimal like the Topo ST shoes I've been wearing for years But I needed more rugged lugs and these did not disappoint. I can't believe how much better I feel after the last Alpine Lake hike & run then previous shoes. And I tried Altra shoes and was so sore after an easy hike. These are my new favorite!
