I’m extremely disappointed with the NEMO Roamer Double Wide Sleeping Pad, not just because of the product failure, but because of how shockingly bad the customer service and warranty process has been. The valve failed early on, making the pad unusable. This is a premium-priced sleeping pad, so a critical failure like that is already unacceptable. What’s worse is everything that followed. I submitted a warranty claim and sent the pad in, expecting a reasonable turnaround. That was a mistake. It has now been over six months, and I still do not have my product back. Communication has been slow, vague, and unhelpful. I’ve had to follow up repeatedly, only to get non-answers or promises that go nowhere. For a brand that markets itself as high-quality and trustworthy, this level of service is embarrassing. A sleeping pad is a seasonal, trip-critical item. Keeping a customer without their gear for half a year effectively makes the warranty meaningless. At this point, it feels less like a warranty and more like a black hole where products and accountability disappear. Between the faulty valve and the extremely poor customer service and warranty turnaround time, I cannot recommend this pad or trust NEMO as a company. There are plenty of other brands that stand behind their products—this experience has shown me that NEMO is not one of them.
This thing is basically a Tempur-Pedic mattress for camping. We ordered the double wide version and it completely changed camping for us. It’s incredibly comfortable, well insulated, and you can roll around without really disturbing the other person much. The Roamer definitely packs larger than a typical sleeping pad, so keep that in mind if space is tight. But if you have the room, don’t even hesitate. The comfort is absolutely worth it. We’ve owned ours for about 5 years now and it has been through a ton of nights of use. We do travel healthcare and stay in furnished rentals quite a bit, and sometimes the beds are unbelievably uncomfortable and saggy. In desperate times, we’ve actually used the Roamer as a topper to help firm up bad mattresses so we could get decent sleep. At one point we slept on it almost every night for close to a month while traveling. Honestly, I kind of figured that was going to be the end of its life, but at that point I felt we had already gotten our money’s worth out of it and we needed our sleep. Surprisingly, it survived all of it and we’re still using it to this day. One thing that helps a lot is using an inflator/deflator pump when packing it up. Pulling the extra air out of the foam makes it much easier to compress and store. Overall, this thing has been amazing. I was on the fence for almost a year because of the price, but eventually pulled the trigger and absolutely do not regret it. We’ve definitely gotten our money’s worth and it pretty much goes everywhere with us when we travel.
