Cool fabric!
Great for those hot summer days! This fabric is terrific. It breathes and dries super fast. Love the pockets too. A little tight on the waist, but stays in place throughout my long runs. The iron color is very unique and goes well with everything.
Lightweight and keep me cool but
I wanted to love these shorts. They are super lightweight and keep me cool. Unfortunately I find the waistband is super tight and the brief on the inside is way too loose to keep the shorts from riding up. Because of the tight waist band these ride up horribly to the point of having to stop multiple times during my run to pull them down.
Very tight waistband
Once you actually get these on they fit true to size, however the waist band doesn’t have any stretch to it so you really have to shimmy them up your body to actually get them on. Still debating whether I’ll keep them or not, but for the price I definitely wouldn’t recommend.
Great
These shorts are a perfect length and material. Im excited to wear these on my marathon. They also seem good for trail running. I have thick thighs and I havent chafed in them.
Super comfortable
Good quality hiking short, very comfortable and breathable.
Just what I've been looking for!
My new favorite pair, I now have two pairs size S in both the black and iron colors and may have to get more with how often I wear them. My main takeaway would be that while I would agree with the reviews that are critical of the tight fit of the waist, I found this design to be a key reason why they fit me so well and I am hopeful that the feedback is taken by the brand as input for continually expanding their range of products to give options for different fit preferences and body types, rather than re-working the design of this item. I found them to be very high-quality, for most outdoor gear I avoid anything that requires careful washing and these have shown no noticeable wear so far through several washes. I've included a more detailed fit and material review below, but in summary I find them to be extremely comfortable and flattering and will likely be purchasing more in the future barring any major fit or fabric changes. I would recommend these to anyone looking for shorts with a tighter waist and a flowy but not flared/skirt-like fit, I believe sizing up one size would also still be wearable for those looking for a looser fit. I found the reviews to be accurate, that the waistband is tighter and less stretchy, however for my proportions this was the exact fit design I was looking for, and I find the liner to be comfortable. The waist is slightly tighter to get on, but I have not noticed any seam ripping which speaks well to the materials and construction, and once on they fit snugly on my waist with or without the drawstring, but without significant compression as the waistband is structured to be a closer fit rather than relying on elastic, which I find gives these a more flattering and comfortable fit. I also found this makes the shorts more comfortable for longer runs as they sit at a comfortable height on my waist without compressing my abdomen, and the waistband absorbs sweat without holding it against my skin as much as other more elastic designs might. The lower parts of the shorts hang in a flattering and comfortable way, with a lot of flow and they don't tend to ride up or cling as much as others I've noticed. The material itself is one of my favorite features, it's fantastic and unique; I don't know how to describe it other than that it feels like a softer material somewhere between a mesh and solid fabric, still technical but not slippery. I would compare it to the type of fabrics that Arc'teryx uses in its more lightweight jackets, in contrast perhaps to other shorts feeling more like Patagonia's Houdini layer. This factor was a huge draw for me as I have sensory issues with certain types of materials, and I appreciate that Salomon provides a range of materials in both clothing and running vests and belts that include more sensory-friendly fabrics. Overall, I would compare the fit and sizing of these shorts to Smartwool's Active Lined shorts, which have a similar more structured fit with a more elastic waistband, and were previously my go-to until I found these.
