2 sizes too much

I wish REI would have these pants in the store instead of it being an online only purchase. I would have been able to try on sizes 29 and 30 in the store itself instead of ordering one at a time to keep my rewards toward the purchase. I thought the 29 may have been too snug in the hips so I returned them. I got the size 30 and the waist part is huge on me. Now I'm left wondering if the 29 would have stretch enough over time? That maybe a bad choice since they are stiff cotton material. I like the idea of the pants. The shopping experience was a huge let down. I’m keeping the 30 for now. Maybe a tailor can address some of the waist issue. This is the first Roark product I ever encountered.
